Rector of KSMU: Viktor Anatolievich LAZARENKO, Professor, Doctor of Medicine, the Head of the Department of Surgical Pathologies of the Postgraduate Faculty, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Academician of the InternationalAcademy of Ecology, Man and Nature Protection Sciences, the RussianAcademy of Medico-Technical Sciences, the RussianAcademy of Natural Sciences, the RussianAcademy of Natural History. He is a deputy of the Kursk Regional Duma of the 5th and the 6th convocation, an honorary citizen of Kursk.

Prof. Lazarenko graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine of Kursk State Medical Institute with a degree in General Medicine in 1979. He defended his Ph.D. thesis in 1988 and his Doctor's thesis in 1995.

Prof. Lazarenko is the author of three scientific discoveries, more than 900 publications (26 monographs), 72 inventions. Five Doctor’s and 22 Ph.D. theses were defended under his supervision. He is an operating surgeon who has the highest qualification category in surgery and cardiovascular surgery, a member of the Russian Society of Surgeons and Angiologists.

Prof. Lazarenko has the following awards:

– the badge of Excellent Worker of Public Health of the Russian Federation,

– the international award "Profession is Life,"

– the Commemorative Medal "XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi" and the Russian Federation Presidential Certificate of Honor (2014),

– the Certificate of Honor of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (2013),

– the Order of Friendship (2016),

– the Order "20 Years of Cooperation with United Nations Organization" (2018),

– the National Award "Professor of the Year" (2018).
