On Thursday, President Tsai Ing-wen met with representatives from WorldSkills International. Tsai said that Taiwan emphasizes vocational education and that the country is willing to share its experience supporting skills training.
The Netherland-based institute brings young people, industries, educators, HEIs and government together so that young people can perfect their skills of choice. The institute promotes the WorldSkills Competition, a renowned biannual vocational skills championship.
The organization plans to open a vocational skills center in Taiwan.
Through the center, Taiwan is willing to share its experience in promoting vocational education and skills development with the world; in particular, ASEAN and South Asian countries, and African countries with potential for growth. Those are target countries where we can use technical skills to make friends, said Tsai.
