Gnesin Russian Academy of Music announces the competition for international applicants and invites everyone who lives and breathes music to participate in it. Famous 'Gnesinka', that boasts outstanding alumni such as Lyubov Kazarnovskaya, Mikael Tariverdiev, Aram Khachaturian, and many others, opens its doors to you.

Welcome to the Gnesin constellation!

Submit to the competition a motivational letter on the topic "Why I would like to study in Russia at Gnesin Russian Academy of Music" and a video that corresponds to one of nine categories.

1-5. Performing arts (for the categories below only):

  • Jazz Orchestra Instruments (Keyboard Instruments, Saxophone, Bass Guitar, Drum Set)
  • Orchestral Wind and Percussion Instruments (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone)
  • Orchestral Wind and Percussion Instruments (Trumpet, Tuba, Trombone, French Horn)
  • Orchestral String Instruments (Violin, Viola)
  • Orchestral String Instruments (Cello, Double Bass)

6. Opera and Symphony Orchestra Conducting

7. Bayan, Accordion and Fretted String Instruments (Bayan, Accordion, Guitar)

Competition regulations: The competition for international applicants "Welcome To The Gnesin Constellation"

Register for the competition. Attach a link to your competition entry posted on social media platforms and its text file. Wait for the result!

The competition entry must include the following:

  • Motivational letter text (up to 3,000 characters without spaces).
  • Language - Russian or English.
  • Times New Roman, font size 14, line spacing 1.5
  • Video. The video must feature a full-size performer. The video must be recorded on the first take (without editing)

Video content requirements by programs:

1. Jazz Orchestra Instruments (Piano, Trombone, Trumpet, Saxophone, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum Set).

  • Perform 2 diverse jazz pieces in various style genres, with your own solo improvisations

2. Orchestral Wind and Percussion Instruments (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone)

  • Perform one or two movements of a long-term piece (concerto, sonata)

3. Orchestral Wind and Percussion Instruments (Trumpet, Tuba, Trombone, French Horn)

  • Perform one or two movements of a long-term piece (concerto, sonata)

4. Orchestral String Instruments (Violin, Viola)

  • Perform a long-term piece of significant complexity (Movement 1 or Movements 2 and 3 of a concerto, except the Baroque period). When choosing Concerto №1 by S. Prokofiev for violin and orchestra, you must perform Movements 1 and 2 or Movement 2 and 3.

5. Orchestral String Instruments (Cello, Double Bass)

  • Perform Movement 1 or Movement 2 and 3 of a concerto or a sonata.

6. Opera and Symphony Orchestra Conducting

  • Conducting one composition for symphony orchestra accompanied by two pianos (without choir and soloists) that includes different tempos, times and other characteristics that provide an opportunity to show your proficiency various conducting techniques and understanding of the music performed

7. Bayan, Accordion and Fretted String Instruments (Bayan, Accordion, Guitar)

  • Perform a polyphonic composition

8. Composition.

  • Present your own compositions (at your option:  a) a sonatina (for any instrument) - one movement or the whole piece (if it's a single-movement piece); b) 2–3 miniatures for any instrument or small ensemble; c) romances or choral miniatures (you can perform adaptations of folk songs). You must choose one option (a,b,c).

9. Musical Art Management.

  • Tell us about yourself, you country and the reasons why you've chosen a profession of musical art manager

Attention! Only entries posted on the Internet for the first time can take part in the competition.

The competition entries must be posted on social media platforms using the competition hashtags #HED_contest, #академиягнесиных, and #gnesinkawaitsforu. A link to your post must be included with a narration in your application on the competition page.

Awards

The winners get a 50% discount for the Russian language study program as part of supplementary education at the Preparatory Department of Gnesin Academy of Music in nine educational programs (categories):
