The Department of Clinical Science of University of Bergen invites applications for the Full-time permanent position as Associate Professor of Medicine (Obstetrics and Gynecology). The position may be devided into two part-time positions (50 %). The applicant must state whether one wishes a full-time position or a part-time position (50 %). Applicants must have a relevant Norwegian doctorate or corresponding qualifications, and be a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. The successful candidate will be teaching general and basic clinical skills within the fields of gynecology and obstetrics, and teach/supervise bachelor- master- and PhD-students at the department in medicine, nutrition and pharmacy as well as participate in other tasks at the department. Applicants should have substantial research leadership experience as well as experience in coordinating research activities and strategic research planning. Proven willingness and ability to cooperate will be of great importance in the evaluation process and will be important in teaching, research, coordination, supervision and clinical collaboration with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Haukeland University Hospital. The teaching language will normally be English and Norwegian. The successful applicant must be able to teach in English as well as Norwegian or one of the other Scandinavian languages within two years of his/her appointment. The Faculty of Medicine of University of Bergen invites applications for two open positions as Postdoctoral Fellow. The positions will be affiliated with the department the project naturally falls under. The successful candidate will be appointed for a period of three (3) years in full time (100 %) position. The purpose of the position is the building of competence by means of further development of research work to the extent that a higher level than what is possible within an ordinary PhD program is reached. The main goal of the position is to qualify the successful candidate for professional top positions. Applicants must present proposals for projects for the qualifying work. The project description must also include a work plan. It is a condition that the successful candidate completes the project during the employment period. Applicants must have completed a Norwegian PhD or equivalent foreign education, or have their doctoral thesis approved within the closing date of the application. It is a condition for appointment that the disputation is completes and approved before appointment. The Postdoctoral Fellow must be fluent in oral and written English. It is possible to combine a part-time (50 %) postdoctoral fellowship with other relevant work, also part-time (50 %). The total employment period for the combined positions is six (6) years. The Faculty of Medicine of University of Bergen invites applications for the PhD position (10 positions). Five (5) positions are open PhD-grants. They are intended for applicants with Masters’ degree education (or equivalent) relevant for research areas at the faculty. The positions are full-time (100 %) positions and the candidates will be appointed for a period of four (4) years or max 4 months after completed the PhD-degree, if this is achieved within a shorter time than four years. The positions include 25 % required duties such as teaching, exam work or supervision, depending on the demands at the department. Five (5) PhD-positions are intended for applicants that have participated in The Medical Student Research Program. In connection with these positions, candidates are employed on a quota basis, requiring applicants with a completed medical degree (cand.med.) or a Master`s degree in odontology (cand.odont.). These positions are only available for participants who have completed the Medical Student Research Program. Candidates must enter upon the position directly after the completion of their degree. Candidates who graduate during fall 2018 enter upon the position 1 February 2019, candidates who graduate during spring 2019 enter upon the position 1 September 2019. Candidates should have PhD in economics or a closely related field; proven research experience resulting in international scientific publications and the ability to initiate and lead a body of research. The tasks will include initiation and performance of high-quality research in areas related to environmental and resource economics; active involvement in ongoing research projects and in acquiring new research grants; teaching and coordinating Bachelor's and/or Master's courses offered by the department; supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses; contribution to the management of the Department / School committees; obtaining a university teaching qualification. The gross salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel, and depending on experience, range from a minimum of € 4.911,- up to a maximum of € 5.978,- (salary scale 13) for an Associate Professor, based on full-time employment. The Department of Earth Sciences of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam invites applications for the position of Postdoc in High Latitude Feedbacks between Climate, Fire, Vegetation and Carbon. The Postdoc will investigate feedbacks between climate, fire, vegetation and carbon in high latitude ecosystems based on field, remote sensing and modeling approaches. Candidates should have PhD in earth, ecological or environmental sciences or related field but with proven interest in earth sciences and/or (spatial) ecology; excellent ability to communicate in both written and spoken English, knowledge of Russian is advantageous. They should demonstrate strong scientific motivation, and interest in climate change issues as well as Earth system science; be hands-on and curiosity-driven, and have an ability to work independently; be highly skilled in objected-oriented coding (preferably Python) and have an affinity with field work in remote (arctic-boreal) locations and good social skills. The appointment will initially be for 1 year. After satisfactory evaluation of the initial appointment, it will be extended for a total duration of 3 years. The Department of Archaeology of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam invites applications for the PhD position 'Surface and Soils'. Candidates should have a MA/MSc (or equivalent degree) in Archaeology, Science-based Archaeology, Palaeoecology, Environmental Studies or related fields; be able to combine theory and practice, work independently but also be a team player. They should demonstrate interest in land system science and/or landscape archaeology. Required skills include experience with archaeobotany (pollen), affinity with sedimentology (sediment and ostracod analysis) and knowledge of (quantitative) modelling and geographical information systems. The selected PhD candidate will work on the subproject titled “Surface & Soils: reconstruction, analysis and comparison of past environments and land-use potential in ancient Greece and in indigenous and colonial areas in Italy (ca 800-550 BC)”. The two main aims are to 1.) reconstruct how agriculture and animal husbandry were organized during the initial phase of the Greek migrations, and determine from what pre-existing, agricultural basis early settlers operated (homeland, indigenous milieu and/or other sources); 2.) analyze how subsistence strategies and surplus production evolved over time, and how these choices and strategies determined the further development of colonial settlements. The appointment will be for a total of four years. The initial appointment will be for a period of one year, extendable up to an additional three years upon a positive evaluation.
