Awards and achievements of the educational program. In 2014 the Guild of Experts in the Sphere of Professional Education top ranked the program as one of the best educational programs of innovative Russia.

Teaching staff. All the teachers involved in the program delivery hold academic degrees and include two Professors, Doctors of Sciences, and ten Associate Professors, Candidates of Sciences.

University partners within the educational program. The Research Institute of Comprehensive Exploitation of Mineral Resources of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the NTC NIIORG research center of open-cut mining, the Uchalinsky GOK mining and refining plant, the Russian Copper Company, Orenburg Minerals, Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (Magnitogorsk), the Rock Blasting Company, Ural State Mining University, the Vyshnevogorsk Mine Group, the Aleksandriskaia GRK mining and refining company, the Buribaevsky GOK mining and refining plant, the Gaisky GOK mining and refining plant, the Bakal Mine Group, the Kovdorsky GOK mining and refining plant, Yuzhuralzoloto Group, etc. The university cooperates with the NadezhnayaSmena (Reliable Succession) Charity Fund, which supports the implementation of educational projects in fuel and energy and mineral resources sectors, and the Mining Youth Leaders Forum.

Students’ achievements. Every year the students of the department take part in ENES CASE CONTEST in the framework of the Youth Day of ENES Forum, the Case-In international engineering championship, the Mining School all-Russia youth research forum, the case study contest “The Best Students of the Mining Institute” (Maksim Iusupov, 2016). Students also participate in the all-Russia competition of graduation projects organized by St. Petersburg Mining University. The department graduates include leaders of mining companies.

Facilities and resources. The institute has specialized laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment and materials. The classrooms are equipped with multimedia. There is a comfortable dormitory, a sports and recreation center, a health center, a clinic. Students are extensively involved in health promoting and cultural activities, and they can attend the drama school “Vdokhnovenie” (Inspiration).

Opportunities for students. Students take their on-the-job placements at industrial enterprises of the Ural region, Siberia, Kola Peninsula, Bashkortostan, etc., where the institute has industrial and research contacts. At those sites students are trained to operate sophisticated machinery and learn mining techniques. They also get a chance to learn a number of high paying trades.

Employment prospects. Mining engineer, mine foreman, design engineer, drilling and blasting operator, mining operator, head of division within a mining company.
