Awards and achievements of the educational program. The program was top ranked by the all-Russian project Best Educational Programs of Innovative Russia 2016.

Teaching staff. Among the teaching staff who deliver the program, there are two Doctors of Sciences, two Candidates of Chemical Sciences, seven Associate Professors, Candidates of Engineering Sciences, as well as the lead specialists from the Coke and Sinter Plant of Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works. Innovative projects of the department’s academics were recognized by the Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies “Archimedes” and were awarded golden and silver medals. The faculty have patented over 100 inventions.

University partners within the educational program. The department’s partners include South Ural State University. Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Department of Physical Chemistry at the National University of Science and Technology MISiS (Moscow). The department has extensive ties with the iron and steel, coke and sinter and chemical industries.

Students’ and alumni’s achievements. Over the past three years the graduates from the program were awarded prizes by the all-Russian competition of graduation papers organized by Perm State University. The 2015 competition was especially successful. The program graduates hold jobs all over the country, many made successful careers. Over 80% of the program graduates are employed within the industry.

Facilities and resources. All the classrooms are equipped with multimedia with acoustic systems and interactive displays. The university has a common education and information platform, sufficient library resources including academic and research manuals, reference books and field-specific periodicals describing the current advancements in chemistry and chemical technology. There is also a patent office with a research laboratory which is equipped with state-of-the-art computers and the Internet access enabling to access remote resources. For their research projects the students can use the department’s laboratories for X-ray fluorescence, flotation, and chromatography. Non-resident students are accommodated at a comfortable dormitory.

Opportunities for students. Research and industrial practical training sessions are carried out at the university laboratories as well as at the key employers’ site that include Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, Severstal, Mechelkoks, Ural Steel, Orsk Neftesintez, Magnezit Group.

Employment prospects lie with such industries as iron and steel, chemicals, oil and gas, refractories; research laboratories and research centers.
