HEI’s image. The Faculty of Dental Medicine is the successor of Leningrad Institute of Dentistry, which was moved to Kalinin (Tver) 60 years ago. During these years several generations of dentists have been trained for Russia and other countries. Many of them are prominent researchers, successful workers of healthcare, head doctors and qualified specialists.

At present, the Academy cooperates with many educational and research institutions, foreign medical centres and international governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Programme presentation. In recent years the Programme was recognized as “The best educational programme of innovative Russia” (2010-2013) within the project of the same name. The programme is developed using IT, role play and a point system. Simulation training is actively implemented at the training centre of practical skills.

Teaching staff. Specialized Departments of the Faculty are headed by leading re-searchers and practitioners: a Corresponding Member of the RussianAcademy of Medical Sciences, Honoured researchers and doctors of the RF and prominent professors in medicine.

Competitiveness of students. Nowadays in Russia qualified dentists are highly demanded. There is a shortage of these specialists not only in rural areas, but also in major cities of central Russia. Medical HEIs play an important part in the solution of this problem. Tver SMA trains general dentists who can specialize in therapeutic dentistry, surgical and pediatric dentistry as well as in prosthetic dentistry and orthodontics. Due to good practical training the graduates of the Faculty easily find employment including jobs in other regions. There is an opportunity to continue education in residency and postgraduate programmes.

Interaction with employers. A special advantage of the Faculty is practical orientation of training of specialists. That is why the graduates are employed in the best clinics and Universities not only in Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union but also all over the world: in the USA, Germany, the Middle East and Africa, India and Latin America. Highly qualified specialists have opportunities to work as dentists, heads of departments and head doctors. Many of them are heads of private dentist clinics.
