The Forum of Worldwide Energy Universities Network Establishment

The Forum of Worldwide Energy Universities Network Establishment was held at China University of Petroleum, Beijing. The network was initiated by China University of Petroleum for the purposes of exchanging experience, coordination and organization of joint work of universities in the field of research and development, cultural and educational, and public activity. The forum gathered more than 50 representatives from 28 energy universities in 16 countries, including Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Great Britain, France, Russia, and USA. The universities members occupy top positions in the global educational market.

WEUN is aimed at promoting cooperation between the energy universities worldwide. It also aims at creating favorable conditions for the cooperation between Chinese and international energy universities to enhance their competitiveness in the international energy sector. Zhang Laibin, the President of the China University of Petroleum (Beijing), was elected the WEUN Chairman by majority vote.

According to the Charter of the Worldwide Energy Universities Network, its tasks include elaboration of recommendations aimed at developing education in the field of power engineering sciences, improvement of the quality of specialists training, and improvement of efficiency of scientific research and university internationalization. The network pursues an active policy on approving educational priorities in the field of power engineering sciences as an important factor of state economic growth and preservation of traditions of national scientific schools.

The network facilitates in training of highly qualified staff, development of the system of mutual credits recognition, and mutual use of training materials. Within the frameworks of the network’s activity joint research will be conducted, as well as educational programs, centers and innovative grounds will be created.

The network membership implies academic exchange of the faculty staff and students, advanced training for persons responsible for academic-methodological, scientific-methodological and international activity, holding summer schools and various intellectual competitions, international scientific-methodological conferences, workshops and teleconferences, research-and-development work, practical training and internships.

Within the frameworks of this large-scale event the head of the South Ural State University delegation rector Aleksandr Shestakov signed a declaration on joining the network. Only three universities represent Russia in this network. From among the national Project 5-100 universities SUSU has become the only co-founder university in the Worldwide Energy Universities Network.

 “It is considered very important to facilitate the development of the energy generation sector and the solving of energy problems, which humanity faces. The collaboration of the world-level universities is a crucial part of education development, and it also deepens mutual and multi-level international collaboration, and expands exchange in education and research-and-development cooperation,” notes Aleksandr Shestakov.

In addition, the rector of SouthUralStateUniversity delivered a presentation on the Experience and Prospects of the SUSU’s Collaboration with Universities of China in the Field of Automation at the plenary meeting. The presentation by Aleksandr Shestakov incited great interest among the members of the scientific community. Many promising offers were received upon the completion of the plenary meeting.
