Nowadays there are about 19,000 students in the university, almost 7,000 of them are students getting higher education; about 900 students of secondary vocational education; more than 600 people are medical residents and postgraduate students; over 10,000 people are health care professionals and higher education specialists studying in supplementary education programs. Almost 1,000 applicants annually get admission into KSMU. Training is provided in 77 principal educational programs.
The employment rate of graduates and medical residents in 2018 was 98.7%. Graduates are employed in 32 regions of Russia and two foreign countries.
Today over 2, 700 foreign citizens from 55 countries study at KSMU. It is the largest number of foreign citizens studying at medical universities of Russia. High competitiveness of the university is related to accreditation of educational programs оf the university in 15 foreign countries: Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, Turkey, Nigeria, Cameroon, Jordan, Thailand, Namibia, South Africa, and Great Britain. In 2016 the university was the first in Russia to set up a representative office in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.
Kursk State Medical University consists of 13 faculties (the Medical Faculty, the Pediatric Faculty, the Dentistry Faculty, the Pharmaceutical Faculty, the Faculty of Medical and Preventive Care, the Biotechnological Faculty, the Faculty of Clinical Psychology, the Faculty of Social Work, the Faculty of Economy and Management, the International Faculty, the Higher Nursing Faculty, the Faculty of Post-Diploma Education, the Advanced Training Faculty, 65 departments, the advisory-diagnostic clinic, the pre-university training center, four research institutes: the Institute of Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology, the Institute of Experimental Medicine, the Institute of General Pathology, the Institute of Physiology with modern equipment. The university comprises the accreditation and simulation center that includes 13 laboratories with the equipment of the I-VI level of reality. The laboratories of interactive training and life-saving skills improvement, the clinical experimental laboratory and experimental operating rooms allow teachers to hold hi-tech workshops, online-debriefings and do online broadcasts for the audience.
Students of the departments do practical training at over 200 settings of health care and pharmacy establishments of Kursk and the Kursk Region.
In 2018 six educational programs of KSMU, such as: General Medicine, Pediatrics, Dentistry, Preventive Medicine, Pharmacy, and Clinical Psychology were recognized as the winners of the all-Russian project «Best Educational Programs of Innovative Russia» implemented by the Guild of Experts in the Sphere of Professional Education and the National Centre for Public Accreditation, and were awarded the status of the best programs.
