University of Jyväskylä, Department of Language and Communication Studies invites applications for the positions of 1-4 Post-doctoral Researchers in Applied Language Studies starting January 1st 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed-term period of 6-12 months. Candidates are expected to conduct internationally high quality research on some of the RECLAS research areas and especially at their intersections, to advance the research field of applied linguistics in collaboration with the other researchers in profiling area and be active in international research networks. Considering the career phase, the candidates must have strong track record in research and teaching in the area of applied language studies. Profound and broad methodological expertise as well as experience in multidisciplinary research are considered an asset. An appointee to the position of Post-doctoral Researcher must have a promising track record of independent achievements at the post-doctoral level, including significant publications, and be active in international fora. The Postdoctoral Researcher’s job-specific salary component is based on the job demands level 5-6 (2.893,95 €/month-3374,18 €/month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to the maximum of 46,3 % of the job-specific salary component is also paid. Trial period is applied to the filling the position. Trial pediod is half of the employment. The post-doctoral researcher of Corporate Communication will strengthen JSBE’s ability to implement the University’s strategy, especially in relation to the core field of ‘information technology and the human in the knowledge society’. The post-doctoral researcher enhances digital business, a strategic focus area of JSBE. The post-doctoral researcher will strengthen cross-disciplinary synergies and collaboration inside the University, especially through the International Master’s Degree Program on Digital Marketing and Corporate (DMCC). The duties of a post-doctoral researcher include research and teaching on Corporate Communication, supervision of MA-students, acquisition of external research funding, and participation in international research and education development. The post-doctoral researcher will also take part in the administration of the discipline of Corporate Communication and International Master’s Degree Programme on Digital Marketing and Corporate Communication (DMCC), as well as participate in working groups and other administrative tasks appointed by JSBE and the University. The applicant should have a PhD in Corporate Communication or in a related discipline. The person appointed as post-doctoral researcher is expected to conduct research on digital corporate communication, communication management or public relations, and possess specialized expertise preferably in content marketing, legitimacy theory or media relations. University of Jyväskylä, the Department of Biological and Environmental Science invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher for modelling eco-evolutionary dynamics of aquatic food webs, for a fixed 3-year term starting 1.1.2019 or as agreed. The postdoctoral researcher will work in the research group of Associate Professor, Academy Research Fellow Anna Kuparinen within the Academy of Finland / ERC financed projects. The tasks involve research concerning development of food web models for eco-evolutionary dynamics of aquatic ecosystems, associated teaching, and potential supervision of graduate and doctoral students. Candidates should be highly motivated postdoctoral researchers interested in developing modelling tools for complex aquatic food-web and ecosystem dynamics and applying them to research questions related to eco-evolutionary dynamics, harvesting/disturbances, and environmental variations experienced by aquatic species, communities, and ecosystems. They are expected to have, or be about to obtain, PhD in theoretical ecology/evolutionary biology, mathematics, statistics, or computational sciences (or any other relevant field as long as the skill set is suitable). They must have good programming skills using Matlab and preferable also R or equivalent programming skills, which facilitate rapid learning of new programming languages and environments. The main duties of doctoral students consist of research for the doctoral thesis and reporting the dissertation, postgraduate education, teaching assistance and possible other related tasks. The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of doctoral student are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations, Rectors´s decision on personnel matters and language skills guidelines. The selected person is required to have a full command of Finnish language. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. A good command of English is required. A prerequisite for the doctoral student position is a suitable Master’s degree and the study right for doctoral studies at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä. The maximum length of the employment contract is four years. The tasks of a Doctoral student focus on research concerning doctoral thesis, doctoral studies, assisting teaching tasks and other tasks connected to these tasks. The student would join the research group Hybrid Quantum Technologies in Silicon. The group is a part of the Nanoscience Center (NSC) at the University of Jyväskylä, which is an interdisciplinary research organization where physicists, chemists and biologists work together to study nature at the nanoscale. Nanoscience Center forms an international scientific community with around 25 research groups and around 150 researchers, and includes several distinguished scientists. Its research projects span from fundamental investigations of processes in nanoscale structures to development of commercial products. Nanoscience Center is the core unit of one of the profiling areas of the University of Jyväskylä – nanoscience. Its form combining researchers from three disciplines is unique in Finland, and worldwide there are only a few comparable organizations. Successful candidates should be enthusiastic, pro-active and self-driven, have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Micro- and Nanotechnologies, Optics, Material sciences or something similar. Some background in condensed matter physics, quantum mechanics or optics is required. The research will involve a mixture of experiments and theory but is more experimentally oriented. Any relevant experience (in e.g. microwave techniques, optical measurements, cleanroom fabrication, quantum simulations or theoretical calculations) will be an advantage.
