University of Jyväskylä, the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy invites applications for the position of Associate Professor (tenure track), Social and Public Policy, starting August 1st 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed-term period of five years. The position of Associate Professor is placed in the discipline of Social and Public Policy and it is located within the research profiling area “Active Ageing and Care in 2040”. The applicant is expected to take a major role and responsibility in developing and leading social scientific research, acquiring external funding and teaching, especially on Master and PhD levels, on ageing and care within the “Active Ageing and Care in 2040” profiling area. Within the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy, the profiling area specializes in two themes: 1. care and housing policy, and 2. digitalisation of old age. For the position of Associate Professor, a person is sought who has the potential to rise among the leading international researchers of ageing and care. The Associate Professor’s job-specific salary component is based on the job demands levels 7 (3 889,84 €/month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. University of Jyväskylä, the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences invites applications for the positions (1-4) of Doctoral Student, beginning as from 2 January 2019 or according to a separate agreement, for a fixed term of not more than four years. The main duties of doctoral students consist of research for the doctoral thesis and reporting the dissertation, postgraduate education, teaching assistance and possible other related tasks. The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of doctoral student are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations, Rectors´s decision on personnel matters and language skills guidelines. The selected person is required to have a full command of Finnish language. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. A good command of English is required. A prerequisite for the doctoral student position is a suitable Master’s degree and the study right for doctoral studies at the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä. University of Jyväskylä, the Department of Physics, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science invites applications for the Doctoral student, Physics, beginning January 2, 2019 or as agreed. The maximum length of the employment contract is four years. The tasks of a Doctoral student focus on research concerning doctoral thesis, doctoral studies, assisting teaching tasks and other tasks connected to these tasks. The student would join the research group Hybrid Quantum Technologies in Silicon. The group is a part of the Nanoscience Center (NSC) at the University of Jyväskylä, which is an interdisciplinary research organization where physicists, chemists and biologists work together to study nature at the nanoscale. Nanoscience Center forms an international scientific community with around 25 research groups and around 150 researchers, and includes several distinguished scientists. Its research projects span from fundamental investigations of processes in nanoscale structures to development of commercial products. Nanoscience Center is the core unit of one of the profiling areas of the University of Jyväskylä – nanoscience. Its form combining researchers from three disciplines is unique in Finland, and worldwide there are only a few comparable organizations. Successful candidates should be enthusiastic, pro-active and self-driven, have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics, Micro- and Nanotechnologies, Optics, Material sciences or something similar. Some background in condensed matter physics, quantum mechanics or optics is required. The research will involve a mixture of experiments and theory but is more experimentally oriented. Any relevant experience (in e.g. microwave techniques, optical measurements, cleanroom fabrication, quantum simulations or theoretical calculations) will be an advantage. Candidates should be excellent and enthusiastic researchers who are able to combine academic and broader societal perspectives, should hold a PhD in Finance or Economics; strong analytical skills and a background in real option theory are strongly recommended and experience with scenario building would be much appreciated. Being able and interested to (co-)operate in a multidisciplinary research group is an important selection criterion. We invite applications from candidates whose previous research activities and publication record reflect a strong interest and/or proven expertise in conducting transdisciplinary research on investment in sustainability transitions in energy and industry. Candidates should be able to not only analyze, but also to generate actionable knowledge and inspiring perspectives that practitioners can use and apply in their sustainability transition efforts within industry. The preferred candidate for this position has a PhD in Finance or Economics with proven interest in energy transition and futuring. The laboratory of Measure, Model, Manage Bio-Responses (M3-BIORES) of University of Leuven invites applications for the full-time 4-year PhD position on dynamic modelling of animal behaviours using machine learning, intelligent sensors and computational ethology. M3-BIORES are now looking for a doctoral candidate to carry out this exciting research through a four year PhD project. The project would be ideally suited to a student with a strong quantitative background in computer science, engineering, or the physical sciences who has a passion to do high level research in a very engaged and ambitious research team. Prior knowledge of machine-learning techniques is not a pre-requisite but candidates should possess a innovative streak and hunger tolearn new methodologies. The student will work in a multi-disciplinary team including ethology, signal processing, optimization and machine learning. Theu will also work closely with industrial partners and will be guided towards how to realise technical solutions from the science. Candidates should have recent master degree from one of the countries of the EU or the EER or Switzerland, must be willing to obtain a PhD degree in the field of bio-science engineering at the KU Leuven, be able to fluently speak, read and write in English, as communicating project results in international peer reviewed journals is a major task. Desirable: Understanding in animal biology/physiology; experience in multi-disciplinary collaboration; working knowledge of MATLAB. The department of neurosurgery of University of Leuven offers the 4-year PhD position in application of L-PRF in neurosurgery. The PhD candidate will be involved in the organization and set-up of a randomized-controlled trial in neurosurgery and skull base surgery where the use of L-PRF will be compared to standard surgical treatment (non-inferiority study). The candidate will be responsible for the implementation of L-PRF in the field of neurosurgery and skull base surgery. The PhD candidate will elaborate options for the (potential) optimization of the use of L-PRF in neurosurgery. The candidate will work in close collaboration with medical specialists in order to validate the technology in an experimental setup and to support/guide its translation towards a clinical setting.
