KIMEP University invites international students from all over the world to complete an internship in higher education, entrepreneurship funding, financial development or Journalism/Public Relations. The Internships in Kazakhstan program is sponsored by the KU Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, in partnership with the Gabriel Al-Salem Foundation (GASF) and KIMEP University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The 8-week program will include an intensive Russian language course. In addition, students will complete a part-time, academic internship at a participating organization in Almaty. Students will earn 1-3 hours of academic credit for their internship experience through the University Career Center (LA&S 490 Internship Exploration), Global & International Studies (GIST 495 Global Internships) or through their academic department. In addition, students will receive up to six credit hours for successful completion of the Intensive Russian Language course offered through KIMEP University. This course will meet daily for the duration of the program. Preference will be given to juniors, seniors, and graduate students in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.75 or higher. At least 2 semesters of Russian language coursework or comparable proficiency is required. Participation in an international internship provides students with the benefits of both study abroad and real world professional work experience. Through immersion in a foreign professional environment, students will not only gain valuable Russian language skills, but also acquire the professional practices and intercultural knowledge essential for success in today's global business environment.
