Teaching staff. The educational process is implemented at seven departments of the university and by over 20 teachers, 80% of whom have academic degrees of Doctors and Candidates of Sciences. Training is provided in seven Master’s programs. The degree-granting departments are the Department of Technology of Recombinant Proteins, the Department of Biotechnology, the Department of Immunobiotechnology, and the Department of Economics and Management.

Facilities and resources. The university has state-of-the-art laboratory analytical and process equipment. The university established the Department of Immunobiotechnology at the premises of Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums and the Department of Technology of Recombinant Proteins in cooperation with the BIOCAD company. The Research and Education Center for Molecular and Cell Technologies is actively used in practical training of Master students. It is intended for basic research and applied developments in the field of biomedicine and biotechnology. The facilities and resources of the center allow researchers to solve the tasks related to the qualitative and quantitative analysis of protein molecules, in particular, the proteomic analysis of body fluids, secretion of nucleic acids, determination of gene expression, genotyping, and to analyze biological samples using immunochemical methods.

Research. The teachers conduct research to find technology solutions for the development of biomedical cell products and gene therapy products, production of new test cellular models for advanced therapy medicinal products using genetic engineering; development and improvement of production technologies of active pharmaceutical substances, creation of new producer strains of biologically active substances; molecular mechanisms of implementation of pathological processes aimed at identifying targets for the development of new active pharmaceutical substances, etc.

Strategic partners. The university cooperates with biotechnology companies such as BIOCAD, Geropharm, Samson-Med, National Research Institute for High Purity Biologicals, Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums, MICROGEN, and others.

International projects and programs. The university implements a wide range of innovative educational projects with top international pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, NOVARTIS. Abbott. As part of the Finnish-Russian Student and Teacher Exchange Program – FIRST Master students undertake their study placement and internships at the University of Turku and Abo Academi University.

Competitive advantages. This program is a unique training program for specialists of the biotechnology industry. Graduates are in great demand in Russia and abroad.
