Studies and practical training

The training process at the university in maritime fields of study is implemented in accordance with the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW).

Students hone their essential professional skills at the Maritime Training Center.

The university places emphasis on students’ practical activities. It cooperates with many Russian shipping companies in the field of marine specialist training, as well as engages foreign partners in cooperation.

The world’s largest sea port in Saint Petersburg is located near the university, which helps students get acquainted with the water transport operation management in practice and get into the spirit of their future profession.

Student life

The university offers an eventful and exciting student life. Everybody can choose an occupation to their liking and join creative studios and teams of the university such as the Gulfstream cheerleading team, the Balance dancing group, the Vocalist vocal studio, the cadet choir, the brass band, the Seawolves folk dance ensemble, the Baltic Seagulls drummer girls studio, the SDK dance team.

Students can try their hand at reporting or editing at the Vestnik journalism studio publishing the Makarovsky Vestnik student newspaper. The MakarovToday independent news channel is also at students’ disposal.
