In the Russian education system the university presents itself as a forum university: Annually, dozens of all-Russian and international conferences, seminars and olympiads are held at the premises of the university.
The priority project "Higher Education Institutions as innovation development centers"
In cooperation with the enterprises of the Mari El Republic the scientists of Volgatech develop the innovative projects in the field of medicine: the multifunctional robotized exoskeleton and the intraoperative navigation system with augmented reality technology based on virtual 3D organ models created using CT findings, for minimally invasive surgeries. The university staff participates in creating knowledge-intensive innovative economy in such strategically important areas as IT and radioelectronics, machine building and the military-industrial complex, construction and woodworking, mechatronics and robotics, biotechnologies and rational use of natural resources based on nano-, bio-, energy-saving technologies.
The priority project "Modern Digital Educational Environment in the Russian Federation"
The university became one of ten Russian higher education institutions that were qualified to open the regional center of online learning competencies. At the Volga Region Center of Online Learning Competencies established by Volgatech the university teaching staff develops the programs already completed by the representatives of over 50 educational organizations of all levels from five federal districts. Online technologies are actively used in training of university students.
In summer 2018 the university established the Coordination Council of the Volga Region Center of Online Learning Competencies for coordination and interaction between regional centers of online learning competencies.
Students actively participate in social life: their projects become winners of regional and all-Russian contests and are successfully implemented. Young scientists of the university receive state youth awards of the Mari El Republic for the achievements in the field of science, technology and production.
The targeted program "New Human Resources for the Military-Industrial Complex"
The Mari Machine-Building Plant, which is a member of the Almaz-Antey Aerospace Defense Concern, has established the specialized department of Volga State University of Technology (the ultramodern Center of Radar Systems and Complexes). Senior students, Master's students and postgraduate students participate in research and development activities sought-after by the military-industrial complex. Over 500 highly qualified specialists have been trained for the Russian military complex.
