Vladimir M. POPKOV, Rector, Head of the Department of Urology of Saratov State Medical University named after V.I. Razumovsky.
Mr. Popkov served as Vice-Rector for Clinical Work. He was the Head of Clinical Hospital №3 of SSMU for three years. In 2009 - 2010 he served as First Vice-Rector of Saratov State Medical University.
V.M. Popkov's research interest is urology. In 1990 he defended a thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences on the theme "Substantiation of the optimal varicocele treatment method." He defended his Doctor’s thesis in 2012.
Mr. Popkov is a board certified doctor. He was awarded the sector badge "Excellent Worker of Public Health" and has the honorary title of Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation.

Current positions of SSMU in rankings
Saratov State Medical University is ranked among Top 100 best higher education institutions of the Russian Federation according to the RAEX agency (“Expert RA”). It was ranked 177th among 374 universities in the ranking TOP UNIVERSITIES IN RUSSIA by 2019 University Web Ranking; 26th among 48 among medical HEIs (and 178th among 671 in the total ranking) in the state-funded enrollment quality ranking. According to Academic Ranking of World Universities-European Standard ARES-2019, that included the universities whose activity conforms to European education and research standards, SSMU was ranked 77th among 198 Russian universities with BB grade. SSMU was included in the National University Ranking according to the Interfax Group that determines the best Russian HEIs (115-116th among 327 in 2019). According to Forbes, SSMU was listed among Top 100 Russian HEIs in 2019.
