Accreditation. The program successfully underwent state accreditation in 2020.

Awards and achievements. The grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) (2010–2011, 2012–2013, 2014–2015, 2016–2017, 2017–2018, 2018–2019). The Russian President grants for young researchers (2012–2013, 2015–2016, 2017–2018, 2022–2023). The state assignments of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation to universities (2013–2016, 2017–2019, 2020–2022, 2023–2025). The Stavropol Territory Governor Award for young scientists and specialists (2018). Student internships at foreign universities (2011, 2018, Latvia, University of Latvia; 2022, Belarus, Belarusian National Technical University).

Teaching staff. The academic degree holders ratio is 96%. The department employs nine Doctors and 21 Candidates of Sciences. Three teachers are Honored Workers of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation. The RAS Academician is invited as a teacher. The scientific school under the supervision of Professor Iurii Dikanskii was recognized as the university’s leading scientific school. The representatives of specialized organizations and enterprises (meterological agencies, astrophysical observatories, educational institutions) are engaged in the program delivery.

Facilities and resources. The astrophysical observatory with a digital weather station, unique physics laboratories, the research and education center of geophysics and astrophysics, the problem-based research laboratory of magnetic nanomaterials, electro- and magnetooptics of magnetic disperse nanosystems, structural units of the Radiophysics and Radioelectronics student research society, Atmosphere Physics and Environmental Monitoring; Astrophysics; Physics of Nanocolloids. Education. Teachers use state-of-the-art educational technologies such as multimedia lectures, case study, business games and role plays, the project method, round table discussions, etc. Research. The promising areas are physics of magnetic nanocolloids; optics of disperse nanomaterials; physicochemical hydrodynamics of functional materials; thermal physics and molecular physics; global atmosphere dynamics; regional climate modeling; innovative technologies in physical education.

Competitive advantages. Long-term field internships, an opportunity to take a semester study placement at another Russian or foreign university and an opportunity to pursue Master’s and PhD degrees.
