Awards and achievements. Bachelor’s and Master’s students take an active part in all-Russian and international conferences, Olympiads, exhibitions and contests where they are awarded diplomas and medals. They receive awards at the international contests, including the European Contest ISA for the best student research paper, the contest of the SPIE/OSA student chapter, and others.

Teaching staff. The teaching staff has unique knowledge and skills in the field of electronics and related areas such as optical fiber technology, acoustooptics and acoustoelectronics, optical data processing, and spectroscopy. More than 80% of the teaching staff hold academic degrees and have scientific expertise in the field. Many of them work for specialized organizations, which largely determines the real practical focus of research topics offered to students.

Facilities and resources. The department has nine educational and four research laboratories fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and devices. Since 2014, the university has been successfully developing a special design bureau of radioelectronic systems (SDB RES), which is a structural subdivision of the Institute of Radio Engineering and Infocommunication Technologies.

Education. The department provides practice-oriented training for students with their engagement in research projects in the department’s promising research areas. This develops a highly qualified specialist having indisputable advantages in the job market and capable of working in almost field of activity related to design, production engineering and operation of state-of-the-art radioelectronic equipment.

Research. Every year the department updates the lists of students research topics for Bachelor’s students and research topics for Master’s students. A separate list is compiled for the topics of real R&D projects done at the SDB RES.

Competitive advantages. Introduction of skills needed for professional operation of radioelectronic devices and systems, without which solving foremost scientific and engineering tasks is impossible, into practice-oriented training of students, differentiates the program from standard Bachelor’s and Master’s programs.

Employers and employment. Graduates are employed by the top enterprises and organizations of the regional cluster of information technologies, radio electronics, instrument engineering, means of communication and infocommunications. The employers are Avangard, the Impulse research and production association, All-Russian Research Institute of Radio Equipment, the Positron research and production complex, organizations and enterprises of Leninets Holding Company, Research Institute of Precision Mechanics, the Research and Production Corporation Precision Instruments Systems, the Burevestnik Innovation Center, the Almaz research and production complex.
