Awards and achievements. Every year, at the beginning of March, the department organizes and holds the International Metrology Forum “Metrological Support of Innovative Technologies” which brings together researchers, engineers, students, metrology specialists from over 20 countries. Bachelor’s students take an active part in the WorldSkills Russia championships in the FutureSkills competencies in the Digital Metrology category, with gold, silver and bronze medals in 2019-2022. Every year Bachelor’s and Master’s students participate in the Saint Petersburg Government’s grant competitions and get the grants, and take an active part in research starting from the first semester. Master’s students are the prizewinners of the All-Russian Olympiad “Metrology. Innovation. Infrastructure of Quality.”

Teaching staff. Seventy-eight percent of the teachers hold academic degrees and (or) academic titles. All academic staff members carry out research, teaching and guiding and practical activities relevant to the major they teach, and 30% are employees of the specialized metrology organizations.

Facilities and resources. State-of-the-art application software packages are used to process experimental findings and model measuring tools. The department has a specialized laboratory equipped with various measuring tools. There is an educational and research laboratory of metrological support and quality control of new functional materials.

Research. The research areas are research and quality control of new functional materials; metrological support of intelligent processes and facilities; designing intelligent systems of reverse vending machines.

Strategic partners. The department closely cooperates with D.I. Mendeleev All-Russian Institute for Metrology. It is a member of the Metrology Cluster – this is cooperation of the schools, universities and enterprises in Saint Petersburg for promoting metrology.

Competitive advantages. Every year students have the opportunity to take a demonstration exam held by the top enterprises’ experts in the FutureSkills Digital Metrology competency. Students participate in annual conferences and Olympiads such as Modeling and Situational Quality Management of Complex Engineering Systems; Mathematical Methods and Models in the High-Technology Industry, the All-Russian Student Olympiad in Modeling and Situational Quality Management of Complex Engineering Systems, the All-Russian Student Olympiad “Standardization. Metrology. Quality.”

Employers and employment. Graduates are well trained in metrology, standardization and certification. They are successfully employed by top enterprises in Saint Petersburg such as D.I. Mendeleev All-Russian Institute for Metrology, UEC Klimov, Power Machines, Tekhpribor, the Severnaya Zarya research and production company, the Aviapribor research and production company, the Radar mms research and production enterprise, and others.
