Achievements. The program has been recognized many times as one of the best educational programs of innovative Russia.

Teaching staff. Training is provided by 15 departments and three research and educational centers (RECs), over 150 teachers, 80% of whom have academic degrees of Doctors and Candidates of Sciences. The degree-granting department is the Department of Biotechnology.

Facilities and resources. The departments have state-of-the-art laboratory analytical and process equipment. To activate research, the university established the Center of Molecular and Cell Technologies. The university established the REC of Immunobiotechnology at the premises of Saint Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums and the REC of Technology of Recombinant Proteins in cooperation with the Biocad innovative biotechnology company. The departments and RECs participate in practical training of students.

Education. Classes are conducted offline with active participation of industrial partners – representatives of pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and related industries.

Strategic partners. The university focuses on practical training, so it maintains contacts with its strategic partners—pharmaceutical companies such as BIOCAD, Geropharm, Generium, Binnopharm, Samson Med, and others. Students have the opportunity to attend educational modules taught by companies’ specialists in the form of lectures, workshops, master classes. Upon completion of the module, students take a test and are interviewed. The students with better scores undertake summer work placements at modern biotechnology companies.

Research. Teachers conduct research in the field of development of biological object cultivation technologies to biosynthesize various products; methods for extracting and purifying biologically active substances (BAS) extracted from organs and tissues of mammals and plants as well as produced by microbiological synthesis; on obtaining and studying the pharmacological effect of BAS to produce innovative medicines.

Competitive advantages. The program is a unique program that trains biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry specialists. Graduates are in high demand in the job market.

Employers and employment. Among graduates are specialists of biotechnology and immunobiotechnology companies and enterprises at different levels, staff of R&D departments and laboratories, microbiology and analytical laboratories, quality assurance and control specialists at pharmaceutical and food industry enterprises, process designers at companies designing biotechnology/immunobiotechnology production facilities, microbiology laboratories.
