Achievements. Annually, on March 4, the department organizes and holds the International Metrology Forum "Metrological Support of Innovative Technologies" which brings together researchers, engineers, students, metrology specialists from over 20 countries. Bachelor students take an active part in WorldSkills Russia championships in the FutureSkills competencies in the Digital Metrology category, with gold, silver and bronze medals in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Every year Bachelors and Masters participate in the grant competitions held by the Saint Petersburg Government and get grants, take an active part in the research. In October 2020, first-year Bachelor students got personal scholarships from the Saint Petersburg Government. Master students won prizes in the All-Russian Olympiad "Metrology. Innovation. Infrastructure of Quality" in 2020.
Teaching staff. The academic degree holders ratio is 94%. All academic staff members carry out research, teaching and guiding and (or) practical activities relevant to the discipline they teach, 28% are employees of specialized metrology organizations.
Facilities and resources. State-of-the-art packages of application programs are used to process experimental findings and model measuring tools. The department has a specialized laboratory equipped with various measuring tools. There is a learning and research laboratory of metrological support for research and quality control of new functional materials.
Research. The department staff and students conduct promising research in the following areas: research and quality control of new functional materials; computer vision and calibration of measuring tools; designing an intelligent system of reverse vending machines.
Strategic partners. The department closely cooperates with D.I. Mendeleev All-Russian Institute for Metrology. It is a member of the Metrology Cluster, cooperating with schools, universities and enterprises in Saint Petersburg for promoting metrology.
Competitive advantages. Graduates are well trained in metrology, standardization and certification, successfully employed by leading enterprises in Saint Petersburg: D.I. Mendeleev All-Russian Institute for Metrology, UEK Klimov, Power Machines, Tekhpribor, Severnaya Zarya, Aviapribor, Radar mms. FutureSkills development is also one of the advantages.
