Current position in rankings. The university is listed among leading HEIs in the Technology of Light Industry Products study field group – it was ranked third among Russian HEIs in 2018 (Quality monitoring of admission to Russian higher education institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, the Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science, National Research University Higher School of Economics). The university is ranked 11th among HEIs of Saint Petersburg and 50th among HEIs of the Russian Federation according to Forbes.
Teaching staff. Today the department staff consists of one Professor, Doctor of Engineering Sciences, nine Associate Professors and one Senior Teacher, Candidates of Engineering Sciences. Industry representatives such as heads and leading specialists of footwear and leather and fancy enterprises of Saint Petersburg are also engaged in the educational process.
Research. The promising research areas include the following: development of athletic and special protective footwear technologies, design of molded parts using 3D technologies, development of information support for footwear and leather and fancy goods production processes.
Education. Training is provided in the Technology of Footwear and Leather and Fancy Goods major. The department has the Innovation Center where students master the methods of computer two-dimensional and three-dimensional modeling and unlock their technological potential.
Strategic partners. The university is a monopolist in training of specialists for footwear and leather and fancy enterprises of the North-West of Russia and the acknowledged leader among seven sectoral HEIs of Russia. The university graduates are employed as directors and chief specialists of most Saint Petersburg firms. The best known firms are the Skorokhod children’s footwear factory, the orthopedic footwear factory, the Engineering and Manufacturing Company “Moderam,” TOPPER Company, the Federal Scientific Center of Rehabilitation of the Disabled named after G.A. Albrecht, theater workshops “Renaissance,” and many other partner enterprises of the department.
