Awards and achievements. The program is a frequent winner of the competitions Best Educational Programs of Innovative Russia. Students have silver and bronze awards of the Federal Internet Exam for Bachelor’s Graduates, are laureates of the regional Dunin-Gorkavich Award instituted by the Forestry Department of the KhMAA-Yugra, laureates of the International Contest of Research Papers held by the All-Russian Research and Development Society, participants of all-Russian and international conferences.
Teaching staff. The teachers at the Department for Ecology delivering the program are frequent winners of the regional grants from the KhMAA-Yugra Governor, research foundations such as the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the Russian Science Foundation, international contests such as Erasmus+ and Jean Monnet. At the moment the research team implements the grant from the Russian Science Foundation and the KhMAA-Yugra Government “Demographic rhythms and chronoadaptation of the indigenous and newly arrived population of the KhMAA-Yugra in the current context of climate change.” The teachers win the contests such as The Best Teacher at Higher Education Institutions of the KhMAA-Yugra; Golden Future of Yugra; The Best Ecologist of Yugra. They are members of the jury of the regional stage of the All-Russian Ecology Olympiad for School Students.
Facilities and resources. Students and teachers have the opportunity to operate unique state-of-the-art equipment in the department’s educational and research laboratories. Structural and functional changes in plants under environmental stress (in the context of climate change and oil pollution) are studied using the digital high-resolution video microscope HIROX, equipment for measuring chlorophyll and flavonol content in the epidermis of plant leaves. The Department for Ecology has a testing laboratory for physical and chemical studies fitted with equipment for studying environmental pollutions, including microplastic pollutions, using infrared (IR) microscopy. The laboratories are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment for molecular biology and genetics research, functional diagnostics of the human body, etc.
Competitive advantages. The program is cross-sectoral, which makes it almost universal. Graduates can work at government entities, oversight and monitoring agencies, environmental organizations, enterprises and municipal entities. Internships and work placements are organized at partner companies. Bachelor’s students actively develop research skills from the first stages of their studies because they are engaged in current studies and applied projects implemented on request of partner enterprises.
Employers and employment. The educational process actively involves the region’s professional community members such as Samotlorneftegaz, a regional branch of Rosneft Oil Company; the Sibgeokarta research and production enterprise, the Yugraneftegaz research and education center, Yugra-Ecology, Surgutneftegaz, Slavneft-Megionneftegaz, the Budgetary Institution of the KhMAA-Yugra “Sibirskie Uvaly” Natural Park, Nizhnevartovsk Forestry Farm; the Service for Control and Supervision in the Field of Environmental Protection, Wildlife and Forest Relations (Yugra Prirodnadzor).
