Huijie Zhao, China

I’ve been living in Russia for a long time now, and I've faced a lot of challenges such as severe climate, cultural differences, and so on. During my adaptation, I learned to understand local culture and customs better, establish contacts with the people around me, and actively search for assistance and support. As to overcoming a language barrier, I keep learning Russian and take an active part in language exchanges, communicating and practicing the language with the Novosibirsk residents.

I came to NSTU NETI as an exchange student as part of the state-funded study abroad program in China. This is the university that offers a solid academic background, and great study. I am sure I will get the best education and research opportunities for here.

Tip for learning Russian

Russian is not easy to learn due to its grammar or pronunciation that can be particularly difficult for beginners. To overcome these difficulties, learners are recommended to listen, speak and practice the language with their friends from Russia a lot. Learners can use Internet resources such as language apps, online dictionaries, etc., which can be of particular help in learning Russian grammar. The main thing is to stay patient and persistent.

Novosibirsk is a large city with a lot of social circles and various groups on social media platforms that unite the Chinese. These social groups also include Chinese students in Novosibirsk who organize events on the occasion of traditional Chinese festivals, open Chinese restaurants and Sino-Russian goods delivery companies. Here Chinese citizens get support and mutual assistance in solving any social, cultural and commercial issues.

The Interclub helps international students adapt to the university and city. The Interclub volunteers meet international students, help them check in at the dormitory, and hold events for international students both within the walls of NSTU NETI and outside it.
