Teaching staff. Today the department is represented by the highly qualified specialists including four Professors, Doctors of Sciences, eight Associate Professors, Candidates of Sciences, two Senior Teachers.
Research. Research and applied activities are carried out in the following areas: ecological regulation of environmental impact; emission and waste water treatment technologies; hazardous production and consumption waste management.
Strategic partners. The degree-granting department actively interacts with large Russian and foreign universities such as Dmitry Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, Perm National Research Polytechnic University, Lappeenranta University of Technology (Finland). The most important partners are organizations such as the Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service for the Northwestern Federal District, the State Unitary Enterprise “Saint Petersburg Water Service Company,” industrial enterprises (the Kirov plant), pulp and paper industry enterprises such as the Svetogorsk Pulp and Paper Mill, the branch of the Ilim Group in Koryazhma, the Segezh Pulp and Paper Mill, research and production companies such as Kortex, Kreal, etc. International projects and programs. The participants of international academic mobility programs share professional experience, give open lectures and hold conferences. The university has an agreement on the implementation of joint double degree Bachelor's programs in the field of environmental protection with South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Finland).

The department boasts highly qualified teaching staff and the leading scientific school (“Prediction and Ecological Regulation of Load on Natural Ecosystems”, Order of the Committee for Science and Higher Education of the Government of Saint Petersburg №99 of December 13, 2013).
