Biology
Accreditation. State accreditation. In 2022, the program obtained a professional-public accreditation certificate from the All-Russian Public Organization Russian Professorial Assembly.
Awards and achievements. The program was recognized as the best educational program of innovative Russia in 2023. Students are winners of the Olympiad, the CASE-IN International Engineering Championship, the international scientific school “Promising Areas of Physico-Chemical Biology and Biotechnology of the Shemyakin and Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, and participants of the Sirius Educational Center programs.
Teaching staff. The program is delivered by 26 highly qualified teachers, including 11 Candidates of Sciences, nine Doctors of Sciences, and one RAS Corresponding Member. The heads of renowned scientific schools, laureates of the Russian Government Award in Science and Technology, and textbook authors take part in teaching. The employers who are leading specialists in biology, biochemistry, and biophysics are also engaged in the teaching process.
Learning outcomes. Students study in the field of wildlife research, research using biological systems for economic, veterinary and medical purposes; in the field of environmental protection; as well as in the field of teaching at the levels of secondary vocational education, continuing professional education, and higher education in biological sciences.
Facilities and resources. Microscopes, centrifuges, culture and virology cabinets, DNA cabinets, PCR cabinets, cell cultutes, chicken embryos, laboratory animals, amplifiers, transilluminators, hemiluminometers, autoclaves, and dry heat sterilizers. The laboratories of the Department of Radiation Biology and Biophysics, the Department of Virology and Microbiology, laboratories of immunobiotechnology, immunogenetics and DNA technologies, cell culture, immunochemical studies, biochemistry, and biophysics.
Research is conducted in the field of wildlife, the use of biological systems of different levels of organization, processes of their life activity, their reproduction for economic, veterinary and medical purposes, environmental protection. Research is also conducted in the field of development and biosecurity monitoring of new medicinal products, and other fields using living organisms and biological systems of different levels of organization.
Competitive advantages. This faculty is Russia’s only faculty that trains specialists in veterinary medicine and biology. There are leading scientific schools for virology, microbiology, biophysics, and immunology.
Employers and employment. 98% of graduates are employed. Graduates work at researchinstitutes, enterprises of different forms of incorporation, educational institutions of secondary and higher education. They hold leadership positions at major enterprises and government agencies. The academy’s cooperation with diagnostic and research laboratories, biological enterprises, agro-industrial research institutes and RAS research institutes creates the opportunities for students to improve their professional skills under production conditions, participate in real projects and in the development of Master’s graduation theses of high scientific quality and practical relevance, and later find a job in their degree field. Students can combine their studies and work.
