Achievements and awards. The program successfully underwent state accreditation in 2018. The department published more than 250 papers, in particular, more than 70 in the leading Russian and foreign journals (the list of the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles, Scopus, Web of Science), 21 patents of the
Teaching staff. The academic degree holders rate is 80% (three Doctors of Sciences and nine Candidates of Sciences). The educational program is also implemented by the representatives of the real sector of economy and practitioners. The chairpersons of the commissions for the defense of graduation theses are heads of leading power companies of the region.
Facilities and resources. The university has lecture halls with multimedia equipment, learning and research laboratories, computer classrooms with state-of-the-art application software, etc. The department established the virtual laboratory "NPO Teplotex" at the premises of the Geoinformation Design Complex "Heat Expert." Students operate equipment at the Center for Shared Use "Ecology, Biotechnology, and Environmentally Friendly Energy Carriers."
Research. The most promising research areas include the following: performance improvement of heat supply systems; utilization efficiency improvement of local fuels; heating plant structure optimization; biogas plant design development; development of applied engineering systems based on catalytic combustion devices.
Education. The teachers use state-of-the-art educational technologies: multimedia lectures, case technologies, business games and role plays, the project method, round tables, and other teaching methods.
Strategic partners. The department's partners are Yoshkar-Ola Heat and Power Plant-2 of the Mari El and Chuvashia branch of T Plus, the Municipal Unitary Enterprise "Yoshkar-Ola Heat and Power Plant-1," the Energia company, the Maricommunenergo power supply company, the Potential Plant of the Schneider Electric company. Students undertake their work placement and pre-graduation internship at the following enterprises: Research Institute of Atomic Reactors, the Surgut State Municipal Unitary Enterprise "City Heating Systems," the Taganrog Red Boiler Maker boiler manufacturing plant.
