Teaching staff. The teachers of the department are specialists in the field of electric power industry and electrical engineering, heat power engineering and heating technologies. The educational process involves representatives of the real sector of economy: employees of regional branches of the Rosneft oil company such as the Samotlorneftegaz and the Varieganneftegaz oil and gas companies as well as the federal autonomous institution Glavgosexpertiza (the Main Department of State Expertise), and other partner enterprises.
Facilities and resources. Practical classes at the Department for Power Engineering are given in specialized laboratories of electrical engineering and electronics, electric power industry and energy saving, electromechanics and electrical devices, heat power engineering and heating technologies. Students take their classes in the workshop of electrical equipment installation and setup, the workshop of the Department for Power Engineering, do training at testing grounds and simulation training centers of industrial enterprises (the Samotlorneftegaz oil and gas company, Nizhnevartovsk State District Power Plant, the Energoneft Tomsk power grid company).
Research. Research is focused on development and modernization of electric power industry of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Area - Yugra: reliability of the electrical power supply system for oil fields, effectiveness and intelligent electric power industry, study and modeling of overstresses in oilfield electric power networks.
Education. Distance learning technologies allow the university to engage leading specialists from Omsk State Technical University, Ural Federal University named after the First President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin. Future Bachelors are involved in scientific, production and technological activities, do assignments and implement projects on requests of enterprises. Training is also provided at the two specialized departments at the premises of the largest enterprises of the fuel and energy complex: the department “Energetika Samotlorneftegaz” (Samotlornefegaz, a regional branch of Rosneft) and “Power Industry of Yugra” (Nizhnevartovsk State District Power Plant) where Bachelors get acquainted with state-of-the-art technology and industrial relations and look for future employment.
Strategic partners. The university cooperates with the Samotlorneftegaz oil and gas company (Nizhnevartovsk), the West Siberian representative office of TD Electroshield – TM Samara LLC (Surgut), Nizhnevartovsk State District Power Plant (Izluchinsk), Energoneft–Tomsk (Strezhevoy), the Nizhnevartovskenergoneft energy supply company, the Dynamics research and development center (Cheboksary), the SpetsTech scientific and production enterprise (Saint Petersburg), the Mechanotronics research and development center (Saint Petersburg), the City Electric Networks company (Nizhnevartovsk).
Competitive advantages. The university is a member of the Club of Universities of Russia and the CIS countries – partners of Schneider Electric. The cooperation plan suggests joint research on adaptation of Schneider Electric's products to operating conditions in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Area - Yugra.
