Awards and achievements. The All-Russian Student Olympiad “I am a Professional” in the Materials Science category. The All-Russian Olympiad for students of educational institutions of higher education.
Teaching staff. 65% of the teaching staff hold academic degrees and titles, 23% of teachers are heads and staff members of the organizations employed in the professional sphere of optical and optoelectronic instrument engineering, and are engaged in the teaching activity as dual jobholders.
Admission requirements for foreign citizens. Foreign citizens can apply to SSUGT on equal terms with Russian citizens. The university has the International Center for Education. The information for international applicants is available at sgugit.ru/en.
Education. Training at the institute is based on the latest developments in optical technologies and instrument engineering under the supervision of gifted and competent teachers. A practice-oriented approach to training, including active and interactive
methods of teaching, is used. Teachers use the following models and technologies: project-based learning, research teaching methods, case studies, business games, creative tasks, brainstorming techniques.
Scholarships and grants. Students get government-public scholarships.
Competitive advantages. The program is aimed at training competitive specialists in the development of manufacturing technology of optical and optoelectronic devices for the existing industry. While studying, students undertake internships at specialized organizations, acquiring professional competencies for their future career.

Industrial enterprises specializing in optical and optoelectronic devices and photonics such as Novosibirsk Instrument-Making Plant, Technological Design Institute of Scientific Instrument Engineering of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk Semiconductor Device Plant with Special Design Office, A.I. Pokryshkin Novosibirsk Technical College, Ekran-Optical Systems, Katod, the LUGGAR design office (Novosibirsk), SB RAS institutes, Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant (Yekaterinburg), Instrument-Making Plant (Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region), Technical Services of the Federal Security Service.
