Awards and achievements of the educational program. During the program implementation the department won a grant of the Federal Targeted Program “Research and Teaching Personnel for the Innovative Russia” in the following subject areas: improved methods of data collection, registration, processing, storage, transfer and protection for better operational control over metallurgical plants aimed at better performance, product quality and environmental indicators (supervised by Prof. I.M. Iachikov).

Teaching staff. The department employs 16 teachers including two Professors and 13 Associate Professors. The staff of the department is actively involved in extensive research. As a result of this work the department became a winner of the research contest in the category of Processing, Transfer and Protection of Data. The teachers have their articles published by peer reviewed national and international journals. Abound 50 study guides and training manuals have been published and about 30 certificates of registration obtained for software of the Branch Fund of Algorithms and Programs.

University partners within the educational program. The MMK-Informservice consulting company, the KonsOM SKS engineering company, the ITC Ausferr research technology center, the Compass Plus software company.

Students’ achievements. Over the past decade, students of the department became winners of different olympiads and competitions. They also featured in top-ten of numerous Ural championships in competitive programming. In 2008, they were ranked first in the open team championship organized by the UralStateUniversity. Students actively participate in numerous contests of innovative projects and technical developments. As a result, the projects are often top ranked in the category of Information Technologies. Students get regional and presidential scholarships for exceptional achievements in study and research.

Facilities and resources. Computer and lecture classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art hardware and multimedia equipment. The teachers of the department deliver online lectures in collaboration with the leading IT experts, where students can learn about the latest advances in the field.

Opportunities for students. Students have their practical training sessions at information and engineering departments and subdivisions of the leading companies and enterprises of Magnitogorsk, the Chelyabinsk region, and the Republic of Bashkortostan. Industry professionals share their expertise, organize guided tours and lectures, carry out joint projects in design and development of program modules as well as in tuning and utilization of specific software.
