Awards and achievements. The program underwent international professional-public accreditation carried out by the National Centre for Public Accreditation in 2015. The program received the Crystal Compass National Award of the Russian Geographical Society (2015) and the V.P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky Award of the Association of Russian Social Geographers (2016). The university implemented the grant of the Russian Federation President for the state support of leading scientific schools (2016-2017); the grants provided by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (2012-2014, 2013-2014, 2015, 2016-2018). The Russian Federation President and Government scholarships were awarded (2014, 2015). Students undertook their study placement at the universities of Switzerland and Slovenia (2017) and Slovakia (2018).

 

Teaching staff. The academic degree holders ratio is 97%. The teaching staff includes seven Doctors of Sciences and over 20 Candidates of Sciences. Three teachers are holders of the title of Honored Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation; one teacher holds the title of Honored Worker of Science and Technology. The Corresponding Member of the RussianAcademy of Sciences, the leading research fellow of the Institute of Geography of the RussianAcademy of Sciences, the representatives of the real sector of economy, the foreign professors from Switzerland and Hungary are also engaged in the educational process.

Facilities and resources. The university has the Research and Education Center of Population and Territorial Planning, the Geological and MineralogicalMuseum, the soil and geochemical research laboratory, lecture halls equipped with multimedia, self-access centers, computer classrooms.

Research. The promising research areas include the following: transformation of population reproduction, displacement and lifestyle, regional landscape science, landscape ecology and biodiversity. Research is conducted in the priority areas of the regional and university development.

Education. The teachers use state-of-the-art educational technologies: multimedia lectures, case technologies, business games and role plays, the project method, round tables, etc.

Strategic partners. The university cooperates with the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Geography of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Switzerland), the Center for Far Eastern Studies of University of Toyama (Japan), Central European University (Hungary); the Kartfond commercial company, the Center for Strategic Territorial Design, the Tourist travel agency in Stavropol, etc.

International projects and programs. The department implements the projects "The Image of Switzerland as Tourist Destination" and "The Barometer of Sustainable Tourism and Travels" (Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts).

Competitive advantages. The program underwent international professional-public accreditation. Students undertake long-term field internships. They have an opportunity to take a semester study placement at another Russian or foreign university, to pursue their Master's and postgraduate degree.
