Achievements. The program successfully underwent state accreditation in 2020. The new Online Journalism and Video Blogging major, new for the North Caucasian Federal District, was launched. All graduation theses done by request of mass media's editorial staff are successful. The department's students and graduates win creative (Challenge-21st century, TEFI, Scholarship program of the Vladimir Potanin Foundation, the German Lopatin Regional Journalism Contest, etc.), and research contests.

Teaching staff. Training is provided by 14 teachers, 15% are Doctors of Sciences and 15% are staff members of regional mass media. German researchers are also engaged in the teaching process.

Facilities and resources. The program is delivered using facilities and resources of the training TV and radio studio, the university's Stavropol Journalism History Museum, the infrastructure of STRBC Stavropolye.

Research. The research area is "Evolvement and Current Status of Provincial Journalism," the laboratory "Regional Media Space," the teaching staff carries out expert and advisory activities.

Education. Teachers use advanced technologies of project- and problem-based learning. Master students learn to create advanced original media content in various formats and genres; carry out various editorial activities to create advanced media projects; identify and substantiate current issues for media research, do this research, develop the methodology, programs, methods, analyze and present results; teach disciplines related to their majors and media education, create educational materials, improve their pedagogical qualification; conduct research in journalism and media based on original or adapted methodology and methods; carry out author activity; create a concept and plan the implementation of individual and (or) collaborative journalism projects; manage the issue and creation of multimedia products for online media, etc.

Strategic partners. EJTA, the Union of Journalists of Russia, the National Association of Mass Media Researchers, regional and federal mass media.

International projects and programs. Participation in projects of EJTA, University of Hamburg (Germany), the Armenian-Russian research laboratory “A Dialogue of Cultures in Literature and Media Space,” professional internships for students in European mass media.

Competitive advantages. A combination of research and professional creative activities, skills of working in the digital environment, creating multimedia content for various media, student employment at partner organizations following the results of work placements and internships.
