Achievements and awards. The program was included in the Best Educational Programs of Innovative Russia in 2018.

Teaching staff. Training is provided by the academic staff that consists of 39 teachers including four Doctors of Sciences and 31 Candidates of Sciences. Five teachers are winners of the All-Russian competition "The Engineer of the Year" and the contest of SIP-UP business projects. The specialists of specialized enterprises are also engaged in the teaching process.

Facilities and resources. The Department of Machines and Tools has state-of-the-art facilities and resources including state-of-the-art devices and measuring equipment, CNC machines and industrial robots, multimedia and computer equipment.

Research. The department has the scientific school that includes five promising areas that are of substantial importance for national development.

The teachers annually participate in contests of grant support for promising areas of Russian industry. In 2018 the employees of the department published about ten articles in peer-reviewed journals recommended by the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles, ten articles in Web of Science, Scopus, 15 patents for inventions and utility models.

Education. The teachers use state-of-the-art educational technologies: critical thinking development technology, game technologies, quest technology, module technology, workshop technology, case technology, integrated learning technology, cooperative pedagogy, and  level differentiation technology.

As part of the program a practice-oriented approach and online study mode are implemented. Multimedia and interactive forms and methods of teaching are widely used .

Strategic partners. The university cooperates with oil and gas companies such as Gazprom, LUKOIL-West Siberia, SIBUR Tobolsk, the Electron Pilot Plant, UTair Engineering, GMS Neftemash, an oil equipment supplier, and other enterprises.

International projects and programs. The university annually prepares applications for international research grants.

Competitive advantages. The academic degree holders rate is high and the teaching staff is highly qualified. The facilities have state-of-the-art high technology equipment, which assures a high level of training.

The department implements a practice-oriented approach where most of practical and laboratory classes are taken at real manufacturing sites. The students' research findings are presented at contests and conferences of different levels. Advanced achievements allow them to be eligible for personal and government scholarships.
