Accreditation. State accreditation.
Awards and achievements. The program underwent external expert evaluation (the Guild of Experts in the Sphere of Professional Education and the National Center for Public Accreditation) and was recognized as the best program as part of the project Best Educational Programs of Innovative Russia. Students are grant holders and winners of prestigious contests and scientific forums (the UMNIK HealthNet Youth Science and Innovation Contest, the RosMolodezh All-Russian Contest of Youth Projects, and others), winners in the Best Innovative Product category in the Breakthrough Technologies in Medicine area at the Youth Innovation Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and holders of the Bashkortostan Republic President grants.
Teaching staff. The teachers are participants of federal research projects, members of editorial boards of biomedical journals, specialized academic methodological commissions, and dissertation councils. Eighty-six percent of the teaching staff hold an academic degree, including 10 Doctors of Sciences.
Facilities and resources. Students are trained at the laboratories of the university’s multidisciplinary specialized clinic, the All-Russian Center for Ophthalmic and Plastic Surgery and the BSMU Institute of Fundamental Medicine as well as the Institute of Biology and the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics – the subdivisions of the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Education. Students have access to the electronic library systems. Teachers use active and interactive teaching methods such as computer simulations, business games and role plays, and clinical case studies.
Research. The key research areas are development of genetically engineered structures for medicine, veterinary medicine, ecology, biotechnology, and industrial microbiology; development of methodology of highly specific express detection of prokaryotes and eukaryotes that are pathogenic for humans and animals for early diagnosis of the diseases they cause and for sanitary protection of the territory; design of new methods and systems of searching for new compounds with antibacterial activity as well as methods of quantitative evaluation of the effectiveness and adequacy of antibacterial therapy (as part of the Priority 2030 program), and study of the microbiome in healthy individuals and in those having various pathologies (as part of the Priority 2030 program).
Competitive advantages. Students undertake educational internships and work placements at the laboratories of the BSMU clinic, the All-Russian Center for Ophthalmic and Plastic Surgery and the BSMU Institute of Fundamental Medicine, fitted with state-of-the-art diagnostic and laboratory equipment, as well as the laboratories of the Institute of Biology and the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics of the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The university concluded agreements on the implementation of the network degree program with the top universities in the republic.
Career prospects and employment. After completing their studies, graduates are employed (the Microgen scientific production association, the State Research Center for Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology of Rospotrebnadzor, Saint Petersburg Pasteur Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of Rospotrebnadzor, the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics of the UFRC RAS) or pursue a Master’s degree at BSMU of the RF Ministry of Health and other top Russian universities, and later a PhD degree.
