Achievements and awards. The program participated in the Federal Targeted Program "Scientific and Academic Staff of Innovative Russia" for 2009-2013 as part of action № 1.2.1 Conducting research in teams under the guidance of Doctors of Sciences in the field of biomedical and veterinary technologies for life support and human and animal health protection. The students and postgraduate students of the department have become the nine-time grant holders and winners of the most prestigious contests and scientific forums (the UMNIK Youth Scientific and Innovation Contest, the All-Russian Contest of Youth Projects held by the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (RosMolodezh), the HealthNet contest, etc.), the winners in the category of Best Innovation Product in the field of Groundbreaking Technologies in Medicine at the Youth Innovation Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Teaching staff. The teachers are participants of federal research projects, members of editorial boards of biomedical journals and specialized commissions of the federal academic methodological associations for classical university education and the Ministry of Healthcare of the
Facilities and resources. Students undertake their internships at the laboratories of the
Research. The main research areas include development of genetically engineered structures for medicine, veterinary medicine, ecology, biotechnology and industrial microbiology; design of new methods and systems of searching for new compounds with antibacterial activity; development of methodology of highly specific express detection of prokaryotes and eukaryotes, that are pathogenic for humans and animals, for early diagnosis of the diseases they cause and for sanitary protection of the territory.
Education. Training is provided in accordance with the standards of academic Bachelor's programs focused on professional research activities. Students acquire the necessary knowledge of molecular biology, genetic engineering, immunochemistry, bioengineering, and strong research skills using state-of-the-art research and laboratory equipment in the field of molecular biology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, and mycology.
Strategic partners. The university has concluded cooperation agreements with the Microgen Research and Production Association (the Rostekh State Corporation), the State Research Center for Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology of the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, Saint Petersburg Pasteur Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, the Institute of Biochemistry and Genetics of Ufa Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Competitive advantages. All graduates can continue their studies by pursuing a Master's degree at the leading Russian universities (Pushchino State Institute of Natural Science, Kazan Federal University, St. Petersburg University, etc.), and, later, can pursue their postgraduate degree.
