Teaching staff. The educational process is implemented by the full-time Associate Professors of the department in cooperation with representatives of the professional community  such as heads and specialists of oil and gas enterprises and research and design organizations of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Area - Yugra as well as colleagues from other Russian universities such as Saint Petersburg State University and Tyumen State University.

Facilities and resources. The university has specialized laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment: the laboratories of biology, general ecology, microbial ecology, ecology of lower and higher plants, human physiology and ecology, physical and chemical research, and chemistry. There is also a testing laboratory of physical and chemical research.

Research. The department staff's activities are aimed at developing and improving approaches to rational nature management processes, improving environmental safety and stability of natural and natural-anthropogenic systems.

Strategic partners. In cooperation with JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä (Finland) and University of Barcelona the university implements joint projects through European Commission's programs. It cooperates with the regional branches of the Rosneft oil company and the Gazprom energy company. A branch of the Department for Ecology was established at the Yugraneftegaz Research Center (Nizhnevartovsk).

International projects and programs. The teachers of the department participate in international projects funded by the European Commission's programs: the project “E3M Evaluation of Quality of Cooperation in Education Ecosystem as a Mechanism for Building Professional Competencies,” 2014-2017 (Tempus IV program), Jean Monnet Module “Interaction of Environment and Human Health: Experience of the European Union” (Erasmus+ 2014-2020 program), Jean Monnet Project “Promoting Biodiversity Conservation in Russian Federation via Advanced EU Practices” (Erasmus+ 2014-2020), Jean Monnet Module “Environment, Health and Climate Change. Facing the Challenges and Adapting to Impacts: Experience of the European Union” (Erasmus+ 2014-2020).
