Teaching staff. The highly qualified teaching staff delivering the educational program includes professional designers, architects, artists, art experts, engineers. Many of them are currently involved in practical design and creative activities. Among them are holders of academic degrees, state honorary titles of Honored Artist of the RF and Honored Architect of the RF. Almost all teachers are members of all-Russian creative unions such as the Union of Designers, the Union of Architects, and the Union of Artists.
Research. The priority research area is the development of competencies and professional skills in creating the modern human living and activity environment. The most current research areas include environmental and design innovations, accessibility and security, the emotional and aesthetic influence of interior spaces.
Strategic partners. In its creative and methodological practices, the university maintains active cooperation with Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, Saint Petersburg State University, and some other art HEIs in Saint Petersburg. It closely collaborates with the Union of Designers of Russia and its regional offices, the Saint Petersburg Union of Designers of Russia. The representatives of these creative unions are regularly invited as experts, reviewers, and members of the State Examination Board. The university always maintains creative collaboration with the State Hermitage Museum, the Russian Museum, the Russian Museum of Ethnography, design galleries (the BULTHAUP gallery in Saint Petersburg in particular), design studios and workshops.
International projects and programs. As part of international projects, the university maintains contacts with the universities in various regions of Finland, the Faculty of Design of the University of Primorska (Ljubljana, Slovenia).
Competitive advantages. The Institute of Design and Arts has been successfully delivering the program for ten years already. A combination of the two interrelated training levels allows some BAs in Design to start practical design and creative activities and others to pursue their Master's degree deepening their practical knowledge and strengthening research capacities.
