5 main questions about studying at Irkutsk Polytech
1. How much does it cost to study at INRTU, and are there any discounts? The tuition fee depends on the program and language. Russian-taught programs: 192,500 – 382,600 RUB/year. English-taught programs: 290,000 – 405,000 RUB/year. International students can be eligible for discounts of up to 60% for Russian-taught programs and up to 80% for English-taught programs.

2. Where will I live? On a modern campus near the center of Irkutsk. The university guarantees a place in one of 19 modern block-type or corridor-type dormitories. The accommodation fee is 900-10,500 RUB per month.
3. Are there any English-taught programs? INRTU offers English-taught Bachelor’s and Master’s programs. These programs are delivered by the Baikal School of BRICS and the Siberian School of Geosciences, where students and professors from around the world study and work.
4. Do I need to take IELTS/TOEFL or be proficient in Russian? Russian language proficiency is not required for admission to English-taught programs, and IELTS/TOEFL certificates are optional. If you wish to pursue Russian-taught programs, you need to complete a preparatory course first.
5. How to apply? The application process is implemented entirely online. You need to submit your application documents to the Admission Office, take entrance exams online, sign the application agreement, and make a prepayment.
The university will then issue an invitation within 45 days. With the invitation, you will obtain a visa at the Russian Embassy. Now you can buy tickets to Irkutsk!

How the studies are structured
Engineers from the First Year
At INRTU, there is no gap between theory and practice. From their first year, students undertake internships in 100 modern laboratories using the same equipment that is used by engineers in the industry, while senior students solve real-world problems of their industrial partners.
Science for Young People
Starting from your first year, you can participate in conferences, write articles, and receive grants for your projects.
Mobility without Borders
INRTU cooperates with over 100 universities worldwide. You can go on an exchange program to China, Indonesia, or Korea for a semester or a year.
Unique INRTU Institutes
- Baikal School of BRICS. All the programs are taught in English and Chinese. It employs faculty members from Nigeria, India, Iran, and China. Students from 50 countries study here. Graduates work for international corporations.
- Siberian School of Geosciences. It is Russia’s top geology school, where students can build a real geology career without leaving the institute walls. Students rise from laboratory research assistant to engineer and project manager and conduct real-world research.

Who is it for?
It is for those who want to pursue Russian-taught programs but do not know Russian yet or those who want to improve their level before admission.

A City at Lake Baikal
Irkutsk is called the pearl of Siberia. It is a city with a 300-year history, wooden streets, and cozy parks. Lake Baikal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is just an hour’s drive from the city. You can breathe pristine air, admire stunning sunsets, and see seals live there.
Campus Life
There are 19 dormitories within 5 minutes’ walking distance of the classroom. It is convenient and safe. The campus has everything you need, including canteens, gyms, stadiums, a clinic, stores, and banks.

INRTU has a dedicated service that helps international students from their first day in Irkutsk in everything from meeting them at the airport to opening a bank account and obtaining health insurance.

This is a free two-year support program for international students who want to build a career in the Irkutsk Region. The program includes:

- Employment assistance—consultations, interview coaching sessions, and the basics of business communication in Russian.
- Migration support—assistance in executing the documents required to obtain immigration status and consultations on immigration laws.
