North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov is one of the leading medical universities in Russia and Saint Petersburg. Preparatory Department

The Preparatory Department offers two programs:

Summer and Winter Schools on Medicine

General Medicine / General Medicine in English

Duration: 6 years

There are state-funded and quota places for the General Medicine program taught in Russian.

Training is provided both at the university’s clinical facilities and at major municipal polyclinics and in-patient clinics in Saint Petersburg with state-of-the-art equipment. Simulation training, scenario-based learning, and problem-based learning are widely used. The university has a multicultural student community represented by more than 30 countries.

The General Medicine specialty graduates are prepared to complete the following tasks:

  • working at medical and preventive institutions
  • prevention and early detection of various diseases
  • provision of elective and emergency care
  • using clinical diagnosis and treatment algorithms
  • research and teaching activities

Dentistry

The program is mainly aimed at training highly qualified medical personnel in accordance with the greatest achievements in Russian and world science. They have advanced diagnostics and treatment technologies at their fingertips and are capable of working in the current economic environment and achieving significant results in public health protection.

This unique Dentistry program places emphasis on honing practical phantom skills and preparing students for practical activities within international standards. Students master the program individually with professional tutors taking into account innovative dental technologies on state-of-the-art phantom and clinical equipment.

  • provision of dental care on an outpatient basis and on a day-patient basis within international standards;
  • participation in medical rehabilitation of patients with dental diseases;
  • use of the main principles of dental care provision management at medical organizations and their subdivisions;
  • teaching patients to carry out core health-promoting hygiene activities that help prevent dental diseases and improve their health.
