Programme presentation. The graduates’ activity is design of artistic products and jewellery following the traditions of art and taking into account social, economic and aesthetic requirements. This also includes development of projects in compliance with technological requirements; organization of artistic, production and technological, research, project and managerial activity in companies which produce artistic items and jewelry; restoration of cultural and artistic heritage. There are two Bachelor’s profiles: “Technology of Artistic Material Processing” and “Technology of Processing of Gem Stone and Metal”. Since September 2014 applicants can enter a Master’s degree programme. There is a post-graduate programme in “Technical Aesthetics and Design”.

Material and technical facilities include computers, special laboratories with modern equipment, a library, media- and video libraries.

Teaching staff. The staff includes a Doctor and Candidates of Sciences and five members of the Union of Designers. L.Zhukova, Director of the Institute, is awarded the title “Honoured Teacher of Higher School”. The Research school is included in the Register of the Leading Research and Pedagogical Schools of Saint Petersburg.

Young teachers have repeatedly won grant contest of St.Petersburg. Postgraduate students are awarded the grants of the RF President for training abroad.

Leading national and foreign specialists (Great Britain, Sweden, Finland, Italy) conduct master-classes.

Competitiveness of students. The students have been prize winners of many national and international exhibitions and contests and are involved in design and production of goods on orders.

Annually up to 10 students are placed for work experience in Sweden. They participate in grant programmes (France, Germany, Sweden). According to the agreement with the EstonianAcademy of Arts, students are awarded grants for studies and making projects in English. Within the Finnish-Russian student exchange programme FIRST students have an opportunity to undergo an internship and practice in HEIs of Finland and obtaining a scholarship.

Interaction with employers. Join events are conducted (conferences, seminars and contests); research is carried out in the laboratories of leading companies. Students are placed for work experience in museums of Saint Petersburg.
