Achievements and awards. Participation in the research and development project of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and the National Natural Science Foundation of China “Development of the theory of limit states for ensuring seismic resistance of railway bridges under construction and in operation.” The university is a technological auditor of the Russian Railways company and is a technical expert of the Northern Latitudinal Railway.

Teaching staff. The program is implemented by over 170 teachers (over 75% have an academic degree) including members of expert, coordination, science and technology, dissertation councils under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Russian Railways company, heads and specialists of the leading Russian transport design and construction companies (RZDstroy JSC, Lengiprotrans PJSC), Institute Stroyproekt, the Lenmetrogiprotrans research and design institute OJSC, the Berlin branch of the SCHWEERBAU firm, etc.

Facilities and resources. There are nine testing centers, two innovative enterprises, 22 research laboratories: “Grounds and construction materials,” “Bridge laboratory,” etc.; the first Russian research mechanical laboratory named after Professor N.A. Belelyubsky established in 1854; a laboratory named after D.I. Mendeleev.

Research. The university is involved in the construction and improvement of railway track structures and bridges for high-speed running along with its involvement with the construction of railway tracks for super heavy loads. It participates in major projects such as: “The Moscow — Kazan High-Speed Railway,” the construction of the second stage of the Mariinsky Theatre and in the construction of stadia such as Spartak Stadium and Saint Petersburg Stadium, etc.

Education. The university boasts two hundred and nine years of educational traditions. It applies digital technologies: Plaxis 3D Tunnel, Midas Civil, Google Earth amongst others; offers supplementary education programs; organizes author's classes conducted by top companies.

Strategic partners. The university cooperates with the Russian Railways company, Yamal Railway Company, the Metrostroy construction company, RZD International (a special purpose engineering company), the Center for Operation of Space Ground Based Infrastructure, Transmost PLC (one of the leading civil engineering companies in Russia), ICA Astaldi ICTAS, and others.

International projects and programs. The university participates in the Betancourt International Engineering Forum, the Maglev conferences, Transportation Geotechnics and Geo-ecology. It has agreements with 70 countries (the European Diploma Supplement, double degree programs, study abroad placements, participation in the Erasmus+ program).

Competitive advantages. Students receive financial assistance in the form of enhanced scholarships and grants. Over 95% of students undertake internships and get employed at leading enterprises of the transport and construction engineering sector.

Assistance and support for foreign students and teachers. The university provides pre-university training (for applicants), summer/winter schools, etc. The partner universities are Saimaa University of Applied Sciences (Finland), BeijingJiaotongUniversity (China), and others.
