Achievements and awards. The Bachelor's program in Automation of Technological Processes and Production was included in the Best Educational Programs of Innovative Russia in 2017-2018.

Teaching staff. The academic degree holders rate is 68%. The department employs four Professors, Doctors of Sciences and 31 Associate Professors and Candidates of Sciences. The specialists of scientific schools well-known in the region (the Institute of the Problems of Northern Development and the SovzondCenter) are invited to join the teaching staff.

Facilities and resources. There are eight laboratories with unique equipment including the simulation center for operation of automated control systems based on the equipment manufactured by Siemens S7-300 company with physical models of oil production facilities; the laboratory of electronics with Unitron-003 bench developed at the Research and Development Center of Electronics and Laser Technology of Industrial University of Tyumen; the laboratory of computer and telecommunications technologies with the benches for network security and intranets.

Research. The main research areas include the following: digital models and control technologies for oil and gas production processes; intelligent process control systems for oil and gas production; the use of electric analogies for simulating heat exchange and hydraulic processes.

Education. The teachers use the project method and practical and modular training methods; the innovative evaluation system "Portfolio;" information and communication and person-centered learning technologies.

Strategic partners. The department's industrial partners are gas production companies such as Gazprom dobycha Yamburg and Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy; the Transneft Siberia oil transportation company; the Antipinsky Refinery, the Tyumen Vodokanal water utility company, GMS Neftemash, an oil equipment supplier, the Tyumen Pribor automation company, the Vira Realtime automation company; the Gazprom Transgaz Surgut gas transportation company, Valmet Automation.

International projects and programs. The best students and teachers undertake their study and work placements at the enterprises of Valmet Automation in Finland.

Competitive advantages. The university provides practice-oriented training. The teaching staff is highly qualified. There is an increased demand for graduates on the regional labor market. This is stipulated by a traditionally high level of basic training in the field of computer-aided process control.

Assistance and support for foreign students and teachers. The university created all the necessary conditions for foreign students' successful adaptation to the environment of Russian society and education and for overcoming cross-cultural communication barriers. The university has the academic advising system.
