Accreditation. State accreditation (2018).
Awards and achievements. The program has been listed among the best educational programs of innovative Russia since 2016. It entered the First League of the Subject National Aggregate Ranking in 2021.
Teaching staff. Training is provided by highly qualified teachers, including Doctors and Candidates of Sciences as well as leading specialists in garment industry and related industries.
Facilities and resources. Classes are conducted in specialized rooms for garment construction and sewn products technology. There is a sewing training laboratory with basic general-purpose and special-purpose sewing equipment and computer classrooms with the equipment for automated fashion design systems. Some classes and studies related to human figures scanning and virtual fashion design are conducted at the Laboratory of Virtual Fashion and Digital Design. Unique equipment substitutes several work stages for prospective product engineers and design engineers working on digital projects.
Education. The department students have an opportunity to participate in large-scale research as well as various Olympiads and contests. Student Alina Yureeva is a many-time champion of the Delphic Games. Students traditionally win in the Fashion Technology competency and the Digital Fashion Designer competency in the WorldSkills Russia university professional skills championships. Students have an opportunity to conduct multidisciplinary research in
the research area of digital reconstruction of historical costumes. The founders are world-renowned scientists, holders of the RFBR grants, Associate Professors at the department Aleksei Moskvin and Maria Moskvina.
Research. Methods of ergonomic design of special-purpose clothing and industrial overcoat for different labor and climate conditions. Computer technologies for apparel design and production. Different-purpose clothing design methods and manufacturing technology taking into account properties of materials. Innovative methods for virtual reconstruction of historical costume systems using reverse engineering. Virtual exhibits of SPbSUITD researchers are always exhibited in 15 large museums in the world.
Competitive advantages. Students can choose a product line group of miscellaneous products and perform a full project design of these products with the manufacturing of samples in the material. They can take an additional training course at the textile and clothing education center according to their original programs (three-dimensional fashion design, mastering the packages of application software programs used in fashion design, etc.).
Employers and employment. The graduate employment rate is 98%. The university’s cooperation with major regional enterprises (BTC Group, Melon Fashion Group, Research and Production Association of Special Materials) and other enterprises of the industry create the opportunities for students to gain guaranteed employment in their degree field and improve their professional skills in real production conditions.
