Accreditation. State accreditation (2018).
Awards and achievements. The program has been listed among the best educational programs of innovative Russia since 2016. Every year students participate in and win research and practice conferences at different levels.
Teaching staff. Over the years of the department’s existence, teachers and staff members have published more than 1,100 scientific papers, more than 30 textbooks and monographs and have obtained more than 300 certificates of authorship and patents for inventions. Many of them are awarded certificates of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the RF. The specialists of the department are invited as experts to consult industrial workers and employees of educational organizations.
Facilities and resources. Classes are conducted in modern classrooms and laboratories at the educational building in the historic center of Saint Petersburg. Students master state-of-the-art textile technologies, artistic fabric finishing methods, learn how to make tapestries, how to produce velvet fabric using the modern ion-electron method, and many other things.
Education. Classes are conducted both in traditional (lectures, laboratory and practical classes) and interactive formats as well as online, if necessary.
Research. The program provides for students’ research as part of internships and the Research Work subject, presentation of research reports, and participation in youth conferences. The promising areas are yarn and thread production using modern fibers, structural development and production technology of decorative and industrial fabrics, developments in the field of tufting floor coverings (flooring roll) and production of flocked materials (fleece-finished materials for various purposes).
Competitive advantages. The university is a monopolist in the training of specialists for textile enterprises in the North-West of Russia in a wide range of areas and the acknowledged leader among the industrial universities of Russia. Graduates are multi-skilled specialists (spinning, weaving, non-woven fabrics) and can pursue Master’s and PhD degrees.
Employers and employment. The university graduates work as directors and chief specialists of most Saint Petersburg textile firms. The most famous firms are Sergei Kirov Spinning Thread Plant, Zeus, Nika, Uzor, Neva Taft, Red Thread Spinning Thread Plant, and many others. The department maintains cooperation with all enterprises.
