Accreditation. State accreditation (2018).
Awards and achievements. The department conducts R&D on request of leading enterprises of the industry such as Svetogorsk – International Paper – SylvamoCorporation Rus related to the development and implementation of new technologies, ecological reconstruction of an enterprise, preparing for and carrying out enterprises’ accreditation to prove compliance with the systems of international standards ISO-9000 and ISO-14000.
Facilities and resources. In partnership with ILIM Group, the Russian forest industry leader, as part of the largest innovative project Larch, the Department of Cellulose and Composite Materials Technology established unique laboratory facilities for academic and research activities with fundamentally new technology infrastructure.
Education. Training is aimed at providing in-depth training in engineering and technologiesof production, use and recycling of next-generation composite materials used in packaging production. Special emphasis is placed on research and practical training of students,
including internships and work placements at the major industry enterprises.
Research. The department conducts basic and applied R&D in the following areas: creation of biodegradable composite materials based on added-value wood processing products, development of high-quality chalkcoated paper production using hardwood pulp; system
analysis of the formation of aluminum-containing sewage pollutions at manufacturing sites; recycling and secondary use technologies for packaging materials.
Competitive advantages. The university has a representative office at the Advisory Committee on Paper and Wood Products of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UNO (FAO UNO). This committee is the only UNO entity that addresses strategic issues of the timber industry development.
The university also implements joint double degree Bachelor’s programs in environmental protection with South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Finland).
Employers and employment. Graduates are employed by chemical, food and pharmaceutical industry enterprises, pulp and paper mills, paper mills, packaging materials manufacturing companies, printing centers, commercial design, scientific and production and research organizations working in the field of development of new materials, packaging design, design of equipment and entire enterprises.
Many graduates hold senior positions at companies such as Ilim Group, Segezha Group, Mondi Syktyvkar Timber Industry Complex, Knauf Petroboard, Karelia Pulp, Gotek North-West, Goznak, work at the representative offices of the major global manufacturers of
equipment for the pulp and paper industry, at printing centers, and other companies.
