Accreditation. State accreditation (2018).
Awards and achievements. The program has been listed among the best educational programs of innovative Russia since 2016. The department was awarded the Certificate of a Resident of the St. Petersburg Import Substitution and Localization Center from the
Committee for Industrial Policy and Innovations of Saint Petersburg (2016). The students of the program are prize-winners of the Perspektiva contests (Moscow, 2014). The students are winners of all-Russian Olympiads on Technology of Textile Products and Composite
Materials Based on Them (Kazan, 2020 and 2021). They participate in research conferences at different levels every year.
The department established the Russian National Division of the International Federation of Knitting Technologists (IFKT) in 2004.
Teaching staff. The department employs two Doctors and nine Candidates of Sciences. The leading specialists of firms such as Hosiery, Master, Knitwear Technologies, Satila, Lintex, Elcom are also engaged in the teaching process. The institute has the academic school “Development of Current Trends in Textile Production.”
Facilities and resources. Classes are conducted in modern classrooms and laboratories at the educational building in the center of Saint Petersburg. Samples of textile materials are produced on manufacturing equipment with computer patterning systems.
Education. The program was developed based on the experience of the department and institute’s participation in the Tempus project (Russia, Germany, France, Great Britain) aimed at implementing the Bologna process in textile education.
Research. The program provides for students’ research as part of internships and the Research Work subject, presentation of research reports, and participation in youth conferences.
Competitive advantages. The department was established in 1950. Graduates can work as leading specialists in industries and set up their own small enterprises. After completing a Master’s degree, graduates can pursue a postgraduate degree at SPbSUITD in Technology of Light Industry with defense at the university’s dissertation council for Technology and Primary Processing of Textiles and Raw Materials. One hundred Candidates and nine Doctors of Sciences are the graduates of the department.
Employers and employment. Graduates successfully work for Saint Petersburg firms such as Hosiery™, Master Socks™, Knitwear Technologies, Scandi, Manfredi, Evromoda, Special Service (Healthy Baby™), Lintex, Andover, Satila, OGGI, and others.
