Accreditation. State accreditation (2018).
Awards and achievements. The program has been listed among the best educational programs of innovative Russia since 2011. In 2021, it entered the First League of the Subject National Aggregate Ranking presented by the Guild of Experts in the Sphere of Professional Education. The department has been a resident of the St. Petersburg Import Substitution and Localization Center since 2016. Students traditionally become prize-winners and winners of the Generation Next contests, the Olympiad “I am a Professional” in the Design category, “Textile Design – Link of Times.” The Russian National Division of the International Federation of Knitting Technologists (IFKT) was established at the department in 2004. SPbSUITD has been representing The Textile Institute International (Manchester) in Russia and the CIS countries since 2005 and is a member of the European Association of Universities for Textiles.
Teaching staff. The department employs Doctors and Candidates of Sciences, members of the Union of Artists and the Union of Designers of Russia. Specialists from the Mariinsky Theater and the Mikhailovsky Theater, the Russian Museum of Ethnography and the Russian Museum, companies such as Hosiery, Master, Knitwear Technologies, Satila, Lintex, Elcom are also invited. The department has the innovation center “Textile, Color, Design.”
Facilities and resources. The department’s laboratory is fitted with manufacturing equipment, including equipment with computer systems Sirix, M 1+, WeiHuan PAT Designer, knitting machines CMS-320.6, CMS 520 KI (Stoll, Germany) and 6F-WH-A (WeiHuan, China) which are aimed at implementing the Industry 4.0 (3D Clothing Printers) concept.
Education. The program was developed based on the department and institute’s experience of participation in the Tempus project (Russia, Germany, France, Great Britain) aimed at implementing the Bologna process in textile education. The experience is adapted for solving the import substitution policy tasks and developing the Russian textile industry.
Research. The department’s priority research area is costume theory, in particular, as part of the Grant from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation for the development of the research project “Appeal to Origins of Russian Culture through a Traditional National Costume” presented by the Union of Designers of Russia.
Competitive advantages. The university’s close cooperation with Saint Petersburg Union of Designers, the department’s extensive contacts with the industry enterprises, an opportunity to digitalize and redesign original projects, use VR and artificial intelligence technologies when creating them using capacities, software and equipment of SPbSUITD Laboratory of Virtual Fashion and Digital Design.
Employers and employment. Graduates successfully work for Saint Petersburg firms such as Hosiery™, Master Socks™, Knitwear Technologies, Scandi, Manfredi, Evromoda, Special Service (Healthy Baby™), Lintex, Andover, Satila, OGGI, Uyut as well as theater workshops of the Mariinsky Theater.
