Awards and achievements. The program underwent international professional-public accreditation carried out by the National Centre for Public Accreditation in 2015. The department implements the grants of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (2010-2011, 2012-2013, 2014-2015, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019); the grants of the Russian Federation President for young scientists (2012-2013, 2015-2016, 2017-2018). The state assignments of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to universities are implemented (2013-2016, 2017-2019). The program was awarded the Stavropol Territory Governor Award for young scientists and specialists (2018). Students undertake their study placement at foreign universities (2011, 2018, University of Latvia).

Teaching staff. The academic degree holders ratio is 96%. The teaching staff includes nine Doctors of Sciences and 21 Candidates of Sciences. Three teachers are holders of the title of Honored Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation. The Academician of the RussianAcademy of Sciences and the representatives of specialized organizations and enterprises are also engaged in the educational process.

Facilities and resources. There are unique physical laboratories, lecture halls equipped with multimedia, self-access centers, computer classrooms, and the astrophysical observatory with a digital weather station.

Research. The promising research areas include the following: Physics of Magnetic Nanosystems; Thermal Physics and Molecular Physics; Atmosphere and Hydrosphere Physics. Research is conducted in the priority areas of the regional and university development.

Education. The teachers use state-of-the art educational technologies: multimedia lectures, case technologies, business games and role plays, the project method, round tables, etc.

Strategic partners. The university cooperates with the Institute of Mechanics of Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Institute of Continuous Media Mechanics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Science, Ivanovo Power Engineering University, University of Latvia, the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Stavropol Territorial Hydrometeology and Environmental Monitoring Center, the Kislovodsk Solar Observatory, Monocrystal, a leading supplier of sapphire, the High-Mountain Geophysical Institute, the Stavropol Militarized Anti-hail Service, the Typhoon research and production association, Ural Federal University, Belarusian State University.

International projects and programs. The university implements the Erasmus+ program with University of Ljubljana. It organizes and holds international scientific conferences: "Innovative Methods and Research Tools in the Area of Atmospheric Physics, Hydrometeorology, Ecology and Climate Change" (2013, 2015, 2018); "Physicochemical and Applied Problems of Magnetic Disperse Nanosystems" (2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017).

Competitive advantages. The program underwent international professional-public accreditation. Students undertake long-term field internships. They have an opportunity to take a semester study placement at another Russian or foreign university, to pursue their Master's and postgraduate degree.
