Accreditation. State accreditation (2018).
Teaching staff. The department is represented by highly qualified specialists and industry representatives. Every year the leading industry specialists of Saint Petersburg and Russia are engaged in the teaching process.
Facilities and resources. The facilities and resources include about 150 units of test and analytical equipment, in particular, multipurpose machines manufactured by the Instron firm, STATIGRAF-L, an optical microscope, MICROCOLOR-2000, a microhardness tester. The unique equipment includes deformation and strain relaxometers, thread and fiber wear test systems, the Keisokki evenness tester, LUCI-100 spectrophotometer, and many other devices.
Research. Students of all years are engaged in research, are co-authors of articles, speak at research conferences. The key research areas are development of nanocomposite materials for EMI and static electricity protection, heat-conductive materials for creating energy-saving technology elements, for example, light-emitting diodes as well as test procedures for these materials with subsequent approval. Special emphasis is placed on research and development of regulatory documentation in the field of smart textile.
The department scientists designed unique thermally conductive nanofilaments serving as a material for smart heated jackets, smart prams, heat-generating car elements, smart stops where the floor surface remains dry even in winter, and many other things. The
department specialists’ successful introduction of their developments and competent work with technology enterprises of innovative industries resulted in the university’s strategic project of the Priority 2030 state program FashionTech Technology Transfer Center aimed
at supporting student startups, fundraising and implementing the idea in the field of smart textile and smart clothing. The project is supervised by the nanofilament designer, Associate Professor at the Department of Engineering Materials Science and Metrology Olga
Moskaliuk.
