Teaching staff. Training is provided by the highly qualified teachers including 17 Doctors of Sciences (one Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, two Corresponding Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences) and 26 Candidates of Sciences. The department provides training in postgraduate study programs in the field of Earth Sciences.

The main partners are Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University, Saint Petersburg Mining University. Alumni are employed at oil and gas companies such as Surgutneftegaz, Gazprom DobychaUrengoy, LUKOIL-West Siberia; at Surgut Research and Design Institute of Oil Industry, the Institute of Petroleum-Gas Geology and Geophysics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the RosNedra research firm, the Zapsibstroy-Izyskaniya geodetic company, the TyumenTISIZproekt geodetic engineering company, Tyumen Research and Design Institute of Natural Gases, and others.
Students’ and alumni’s achievements. Students are laureates of the international conference “Oil and Gas Horizons,” grant holders of the UMNIK Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology for the implementation of their engineering ideas, winners of the All-Russian Engineering Contest in 2016. The fifth-year student A. Ponomarev was rated among the Top 20 young engineers of the Russian Federation. The outstanding alumni include S.V. Muravlenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Yuganskneftegaz oil and gas company; A.A. Nezhdanov, Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Deputy Director for Research at the Gazprom Geologorazvedka oil and gas company; S.I. Erke, First Deputy Director General of the Zarubezhneft oil company, a holder of the title of Honored Oil Worker of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.
Facilities and resources. Students can benefit from computer classrooms, classrooms with multimedia equipment, mineralogical, lithological, geochemical, soil science and soil mechanics laboratories. All computers are connected to the university corporate network, which has relevant teaching materials. Non-resident students are accommodated in a comfortable dormitory.
Opportunities for students. Students undertake their educational internship and work placement. The first-year students undertake an educational geological internship in Sukhoy Log town of the Sverdlovsk Region; an educational geodetic internship on the territory of Tyumen. After completing the second year of studies students undertake a geological survey internship in Khadyzhensk (the Krasnodar Territory). After completing the third and the fourth years of studies students undertake their internship in parties, expeditions and at enterprises implementing oil and gas extraction activities, hydrogeological, geological survey works as well as at research and design institutes.
Employment prospects. Engineers, geologists, hydrogeologists, scientific workers, petroleum geology and engineering geology specialists.
